I now have an IP profile of 5500 according to BT speedtester, reflected in my speeds.

It's all good now - should I just let the SNR improve on its own or should I disconnect and re connect occasionally?

I would leave it connected, it should with adsl2+ sort itself out with after a period of continuous connection.

You've got a banded adsl2+ profile i.e max downstream sync limited to 3072 this is instituted by BT line management on noisy, unstable or lines with high error counts. Support can get this lifted although best to see if the cause can be cured.

Just an update to try to help anyone else with similar issues.

Eventually my high noise margin was due to the router being sited behind the tv with all the cables causing interference. I put the router in a nice quiet spot and the connection has been excellent since. You may remember it all started when I connected it to the blu ray player and I thought that was the problem, but it was just the location. I plan to get a couple of homeplugs to connect it up now.


Anyway thanks for all the help and suggestions - just goes to show that all those nasty tv/skybox/av receiver wires can really mess up an adsl2+ connection
