Despite being just up the road outside Didcot, it seems I don't go through Reading :dunno:

Well, seems we were the only ones that noticed... Just as well I reported it to BT...

;D

Technical Ben

The most entertaining error reports ever. Get these guys working for Windows*!

*Other OS's need not apply. They don't know what an "error" is over at Lunix/OSX anyhow. ;)
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

My connection in Newbury went down after midnight and isn't up still. Is this related?

My line went down around 20.00 last night, it's still down now. When I looked on the AAISP link this morning, there were no further updates from last night.

It's not made it to IDNet's status page, though Guildford has.

Guildford was reported as fixed if I remember correctly.

You need to contact support. BT says the fault is cleared, so IDNet will have to pursue any outstanding problems as individual cases.

Glenn

The fault isn't cleared. I've just spoken to Brian, he contacted BT, who are still working on a fix.

Rik

Oh. I spoke to him and he said it had been cleared by BT but that it was still 'marked' as open so he couldn't run line tests. :dunno:

I'm in Birmingham and my line dropped yesterday evening and was very unstable until my Mum called me around 9.15pm. The line then reconnected and the errors which were giving the instability disappeared, it has remained connected ever since. The only difference is my uncancelled echo went from -12 to +8 I hope this isn't the start of my connection dropping when the phone rings problem again  :bawl:

Rik

Sounds like a bad joint on the line. :(

Possibly Rik, but you might remember last time BT came out four times and put me on new circuits from my home to the cabinet and from the cabinet to the exchange.

Since the last BT visit my connection has been rock solid holding for weeks on end, I just hope last nights problem hasn't upset my line equilibrium. :fingers:

Still no connection, I spoke to James, he said it was a Major Service Outage - MSO I believe

Still not on the network status page, though.  :dunno:

Maybe they are being optmistic that BT will fix it in less time than it'll take them to update the network status?

I can't find any updates on AAISP or Zen which indicate any fault.

I imagine a large control centre with people running around just like in the film Appolo 13.

This is BT, Ben. They're sitting round drinking tea and admiring p3. ;)

At Zen and IDNet (who probably do it remotely at weekends) I could believe you, at BT it relies on BT staffer in the affected area noticing the broadband has gone down (probably because their kids cant get on facebook)

BT staffer gets nagged by kids 'Dad/Mum, I can't get on facebook'
"Have you unplugged the router for 20 minutes?' says the BT bod.
Kids 'yes and it still don't work'
BT bod texts engineer colleaugue who is on duty at the time 'broadband down. kids driving me mad, sort it out will ya?'
Engineer decides to finish his kebab first washed down with 4 further cups of tea.
'spose I better go an 'ave a look then' he thinks.
Meanwhile several thousand customers of several ISPs are bombarding their support lines because broadband in the area has gone down.

I can't either Steve, but that is what support told me. I find it hard to believe that if it is an MSO, why aren't other customers affected?

It's totally ridiculous and equally unacceptable that BT can get away with this level of outage without having to pay compensation.

Ah I think I may have solved this problem at least  :slap: - fingers crossed yet again. The connection seemed to stabilise yesterday evening, and started disconnecting every minute or so again this morning.

I had moved the router from behind the TV to a window sill, which started getting direct sunlight again this morning, I've moved it off the window sill and so far the connection is stable again!
Its a black linksys so really was quite hot.

Time will tell.
