Android device names

OK, I'm not normally one to be jealous of Apple products but at the moment they have a simple feature that I would like and cannot find - how the heck do I change the default name of the blessed thing (Desire HD in my case but I'm sure other Android devices are the same)? I see any number of My-ipod, Keiths-iPhone, Steves-iPad and so on trying to connect to our network but Android devices appear as Android_fc054a21e028 and so on and I can't see any way of changing the name of mine Apart from anything else it would make it easy to identify the chief executive at a glance rather than having to scan down a list of numbers!

Yeah, that's the sort of thing I was finding too - I was hoping that later versions of Android would have had this as a feature rather than a hack -and if you have to root the phone to do it then as far as I am concerned it's a hack

Wouldn't even mind an app to do it but it really shouldn't be necessary!

Lol, I was looking at that app as you were replying - but I couldn't find it on the market and am wary of apps from other sources. Ah well, if tat's the only option then that's what I'll have to do

OK, found it on the market & installed it but can't see how it works! It really shouldn't be this tricky, I may not be a wiz with Android but I'm not a technophobe either!
