HTC Sensation....

anyone looking out for one of these - the specs look rather tasty.

another 6-8 weeks and i'll be looking for an upgrade for my current original Desire.

thinking the Sensation could be the one to get.......hopefully orange will have it available by the time i want one...

It does look gorgeous, its just battery life, but I think the build quality will trump the Galaxy S 2

A well-built Android phone with plenty of power and a slick UI, but it just isn't as good as the Samsung Galaxy S II in the vital areas...

HTC isn't shy when it comes to naming its phones, with the Hero, Desire, Legend and Incredible now joined by the equally bombastic Sensation. This confidence works when the phone displays a level of quality to match the name, but the Samsung Galaxy S II has raised the bar for Android phones. HTC's new flagship has some serious catching up to do.

The Sensation gets off to a good start, partnering Android 2.3 with the Sense 3 interface, as seen on HTC's Flyer tablet. The most obvious enhancement is an overhaul to the lock screen: gone is the swiping bar, replaced by a metal-effect ring that peeks out from the bottom of the screen. Pull the ring upwards and the phone unlocks with a slick, spinning animation.

There's space for four user-defined app icons on the lock screen, and dragging one into the ring will unlock the phone directly into the app. The lock screen now supports widgets, too, with Friend Stream, weather information, basic music controls and several others available. Alas, they can't be dragged for direct opening in the same way.

Other changes are subtle. Scrolling between home screens uses a 3D animation, the Connected Media app allows for DLNA connectivity, and the notification bar shows memory usage and can kill persistent apps.

My daughter's just upgraded her phone to the HTC Desire HDHT Desire HD and she's very pleased with it.

Meanwhile me, who pays for it, makes do with one of these

I just replaced my Desire, which HTC would not fix, with a Samsung Galaxy S, I couldn't afford the S2. It feels faster and has a longer battery life that the Desire it replaced, it also has 8Gb of internal ram, with the ability to add a further 32Gb via a micro SD.

Galaxy S 2 looks good, I'm just worried about the thin battery cover, hate creaky plastic. Also lots of talk about the thing getting too hot to touch when being used intensively, either was its time to move on from the iPhone and seeling mine as a sim free handset with 1 years worth of Applecare will give me the cash for one or the other. I'll try the Samsung out first, as HTC battery life is dubious, the HD was awful and that went back within a week.

What's prompted the decision to move from the iPhone, Gary? I have to admit, after initial doubts, I think I'd find it hard to move to anything else now, although, the BlackBerry Touch will be tempting.

As for HTC, Nicky's desire died last night. She was scrolling through some text messages and it threw up a white screen with the HTC logo on it. It wouldn't respond to any buttons so I took out the battery. It now refuses to switch on

HTC have arranged collection from my workplace tomorrow afternoon so hopefully they can repair it without claiming water damage (as it's never been near water!).

Lance there are 2 water detectors you can see, one on the battery another next to the battery terminals on the phone, the third is hidden under the back cover by the usb port. This is the one that was showing pink on mine.

Form over function issues, and the fact you get more for your money when it has not got 'Apple' printed on it let alone the freedom to actually use your phone the way you want.

One of my colleagues who already had a 3Gs took delivery of a white iPhone 4 the day before yesterday because she wanted an iPhone in white.

It suited my needs and I still like Macs Mitch, but when I see phones with full Flash, 4.3 screens removable batteries etc and super amoled screens for £499 when a iPhone made of glass costs £600 you have to think is this a rip off? I like the iPhone don't get me wrong, its great to use and iOS 5 will bring the notification screens that people need etc, the phone is very easy to use and totally reliable but I want something that's not tied down so much, oh and that I can change the battery of

Why do you need to change the battery? Mines 2 years old, the battery is a good as it's always been,it always lasts the day. I can see a reason for having a spare if it didn't last the day.
