Hi,

being relatively new to web space file hosting/transfer, I wonder if there is a FAQ or step-bt-step guide on how to use the IDNet webspace?

Thanks for any help!

I thought there was a FAQ I seem to have misplaced it as well.

Hi and welcome to the forum. :welc: :karma:

There is some very basic information in the FAQs, here, but it's far from a step-by-step guide. If you have specific questions, we'll be happy to try and help you with them. What browser are you using, btw?

Once you've logged into the Idnet portal you can find the necessary details at this link - https://www.idnet.net/secure/portal/webspace/

Then you just need an FTP client of your choice and enter the server, username and password details from above (I use Filezilla myself) - http://www.filehippo.com/download_filezilla/

Once connected it will take you to the root directly of your webspace. If you wanted to host a website then you would upload the index file and associated content here. If you just wanted to store files then you'd simply upload the files.

If there's any specific and/or more advanced information you want to know please don't hesitate to ask and I'll do my best to answer it.

Many thanks to Steve, Ray, Rik and .Griff for karma and advice.

Sorry for not providing platform specs; I'm one of those Mac addicts  :). Even worse, I still use OS 9 applications and therefore run OS 10.4 on my powerMac, which allows me to use the "Classic" environment. But this in turn limits which browsers I can use, e.g. Firefox 4 requires OS 10.5 or later . . .  -  well I think you get the point.

Whilst logged on to the IDNet portal I've seen the Web Space Setup window. I've now found and installed Cyberduck 2.8 (which will run on my system), and apparently uploaded a sample file -  but I've not managed to access the file I've uploaded. I'm not sure if I've entered the correct URL in my browser. My website address is supposed to be "http://t_s.www.idnet.com/", according to the Web Space Setup window.

Any clues on how to organise webspace files, and to retrieve them by using the correct URLs would be greatly appreciated. (Some years ago, I managed to upload some files to a remote server, and I do remember some directory names such as index.html - but I'm not sure if that is needed now?)

If you've got iWeb? You can build and publish your website i.e this took me a couple of  minutes http://stevehowlin.www.idnet.com . You need to enter the ftp settings into iWeb prior to publish . Currently your webspace directory will be empty ie no files

Thats interesting Steve thanks for posting that.

I've a web site done in iWeb which is currently hosted on Mobileme, with web hosting probably discontinued next year along with iDisk I was looking for alternative options.

It looks like I've just found one  :thumb:
