Every evening my router (D-Link DSL-2740R) drops my internet connection for a few minutes yet it doesn't lose sync?

I found the message in the router logs but I have no idea what it means?

Anyone else know? A quick google shows quite a few people asking the same but no answers??

I have recently swapped to ADSL2+ and the router is new.

Routerstats shows sync and SNR are solid.

Do the support guys at Idnet frequent this forum?

It appears to be a standard ADSL protocol message and from what I gather a profile tweak may fix it.

I've not come across this one, Ginger, I'd advise you to call or email support. They do, sometimes, read the forum, but it will be quicker to get in touch direct.

This is a problem with certain routers. Basically the router keeps sending out LCP Echo Request to Idnets PPP server and as it gets no reply (echo reply not received in time) the router times out after a set period and drops the connection. This is then repeated over and over again.

I'm not sure if you can effectively "tell" the router to stop sending LCP requests or if it's something Idnet need to address their end.

I don't think you can stop any router from sending these as it is used to monitor whether its connected or not, maybe there is a way to lengthen the timeout?

What router are you using GingerJedi?

D-Link DSL-2740R

It's in the first line of his post Mitch. It seems to be a common issue amongest D-Link routers.

I just bought this as I needed an N router, it got great recommendations.  >:( Timeout set to 0 which means unlimited.

I guess I'll be adding it to my box of Netgear, Belkin and 2-Wire routers, why cant things just work!!!

It only does it every now and again, I only notice it maybe once a day in the evening but it may be disconnecting more frequently without me noticing.

Have a word with support, see if there's anything they can do to help.

That controls long it will stay logged in without user activity, it's unconnected with LCP echo timeout.

Thats an internal function as it periodically checks to see if it's still connected to anything.

I think I fixed it, advice on another forum was to try G.DMT mode which I think is ADSL1?

I seem to be syncing higher and I've kept the higher upload rate, zipping along now.

It makes me wonder if ADSL2+ is for the benefit of the user or the ISP?

I think ADSL2+ was a (in some cases) happy side effect of the upgraded kit, 21CN was designed to bring several separate systems together to make management easier, benefit to the customer (be that end users or ISPs) was at the bottom of the list.
