Is this good news for me ?? I am currently on Idnet Home Max  (ADSL MAX) package on a market 1 exchange, with no SDSL or LLU or fiber. There are no current dates for any of these services...

Is this true?

I found the link on thinkbroadband twitter feed but no news Item on front page. !! :dunno:

I think it means by 2014 you'll either be on adsl2+ or Fibre

So that means everyone will be on 21C  by 2014. Which will great news for all of the UK.

I guess as some exchanges will be fibre only the cost of fibre packages will have to come down.

Hopefully FTTC/FTTP prices will come down.

That's me stuck for a few years then, :( I can't see them rushing to upgrade a rural exchange that only has about 1500 subscribers.  :shake:

Same here Ray I can go to A CPW reseller like Xilo but with no telephone packages....not good news and you have to move your phone as its full LLU.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

I'm quite happy with my Max connection.  As they say, what you've never had, you don't miss.  :)

Thought Xilo were introducing telephone packages as when I tried to help one of the users on their forums by directing them to IDNet, the name was blocked and I was unceremoniously booted from the forum.

Not really a company I'd want to deal with if thats the way they treat people.

I think if was stuck on max for the foreseeable future I would go LLU,Xilo would be an option and I would consider a second line for phone or broadband use only.

You posted that last time, Mitch. You broke their forum rules, that's why you got booted. In my dealing with them about services they have been courteous and very helpful.

Cost factors in as well Steve, running one line on LLU and a second for phone gets expensive. The point for me would be to consolidate my packages and not pay more than I do now.

Of course cost factors in but for instance running full LLU on Xilo and BT for phone is probably no more than I pay monthly at the moment, obviously there's an install cost but that becomes minimal if it's a long term decision.

True and the speeds would be much better but I would not go back to BT in a gazillion years and I cant justify £130 for a new line, also changing phone numbers is a pain, I would need a new line put in for Xilo really and then drop BB off IDnet and keep the phone. Right now things can stay as they are if Xilo did BB and phone in one that would be the answer...

From what I've seen, the DSL max sync rate isn't quite so much on a hair trigger as DSL2.
CompuServe 28.8k/33.6k 1994-1998, BT 56k 1998-2001, NTL Cable 512k 2001-2004, 2x F2S 1M 2004-2008, IDNet 8M 2008 - LLU 11M 2011

Interesting news, although as the update mentioned I may well be stuck on ADSL Max forever! I was just doing a somewhat hopeless search for news on 21cn rollout for my exchange (estimated date disappeared long ago) and came across this article:

http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/networking/2007/02/22/northern-ireland-first-to-get-21cn-completion-39286026/

Ah well, what could have been! It's not so much the speed that bothers me (7mbit down isn't too bad) but the  cost of BT Wholesale and reliability.
