Insane packet loss?

I'm unable to watch any stream or video as everything keeps buffering, is it a local issue or?

There was a light hearted comment re the release of Mac OS X Lion in another thread . I wonder if the two things fit together as there will be a lot of people trying to download 4Gb of data today all at the same time.

All three IDNet lines I monitor are showing the same packet loss as you - seems to have started after a glitch at around 3pm. All three graphs are showing a sharp red line at that time (like yours too).

Browsing seems a bit sluggish here too.

I'm seeing that 3pm spike (to varying degrees) on several BQMs that are nothing to do with IDNet, including BE...

If it's also affecting other ISPs then it could be due to the Mac Lion release which was around 3.00pm this afternoon.

I agree, certainly I don't usually see any packet loss except for the blip after midnight but  my BGM is showing red since early pm and browsing is sluggish even when I've paused my 4Gb download which incidentally probably won't finish until breakfast time.

Weird... didn't lose PPP on any of the lines either... wonder if it was a TBB issue...? Or Lion perhaps!?

I was going to start my download around 12 midnight to get it off peak. I bet we see a Big increase in packet loss around that time tonight.

I'm happy to blame the packet loss and speed drops on that, but why the big spike?

Must be the website. I'm getting 100% A OK for ping requests to google and BBC.

Ouch... mine's only about 5%, but that's bad for this time of day.

I think I'll go to bed before midnight tonight, then I can get a good rest before looking at the off-peak figures in the morning

Things have either suddenly got better or Safari 5.1 is turbo charged compared to the previous version.

Edit: I'm fairly certain that suddenly speed and reduced latency has returned.

Lots of lag spikes and some packet loss for me but my speed is actually quite good for this time of the day/night.

Anyone having the same packet loss again? I can't seem to watch any stream or youtube as it keeps buffering constantly. Gaming isn't even going smooth because of the packet loss.

Probably down to the sheer amount of people online watching news streams waiting to see if it all kicks off again this evening.

I've been seeing some problems the past few days, my girlfriend is on sky, we play games via direct IP, and we have been having random drop outs and game slow downs the past couple of days. We both rebooted the router a few hours ago and it seems ok again. I know my download speed dropped from 4mb to 1mb when i tested it a few hours ago too, its back up to 4mb now, so all seems ok for the moment.

Also, while on about speeds, is it possible to increase the upload speed ? I tend to download stuff on my girlfriends pc as she gets sometimes around 15mb and its unlimited so i tend not to bother here anymore, but I do do a lot of website stuff which is mostely uploading and at 30k or so upload speed things can drag on for a while at times.

We saw a huge increase in traffic to news sites yesterday. Probably people checking the stock markets and riots.

It's a safe bet that, if the BBC site is slow, something big's happening in the news.
