I have tried to open some sites with IE9 and it stops working and tries to close.

Just Tried  www.O2.co.uk   I can open it in other browsers and it works fine but not in IE9 , Any clues as I have tried all the normal stuff.  :dunno:

I'm only saying this because I heard it elsewhere, but have you tried Compatibility Mode, Den?

I'll take a that guess he might not have that option Simon. Would I be right in saying Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is part of the error message? If not ignore me :)

Works fine for me in IE9 as well  :dunno:

It just says windows has stopped working and windows is searching for a answer and will close and then closes.  :dunno:

Do you have the Windows Media player Extension installed?

Any entries in the event log relating to IE problems?

What happens if you try it in 'InPrivate' mode? That disables toolbars and add-ons which are sometimes the cause of problems. Other than that you could try disabling 3rd party browder extensions  under Toole-Internet Options - Advanced and see if that helps but it quite probably does no more than InPrivate does anyway

Den

Just tried that and still the same result  :dunno:

That might be down to Data Execution Prevention as it appears to hang the browser and produce a generic error when it kicks in. I've seen this a lot during the last week or two and although all the PC I've fixed have had a virus, I'm not at all convinced it's a virus issue. It might be being caused by a recent Microsoft update.

It's a shot in the dark but you could try resetting your browser to the default settings. That fixed the issue caused by DEP on all the PCs I've seen. You should be aware though that this will remove all customisations from the browser.

To do it you'll need to run inetcpl.cpl (using the run command) or start it from the search box.

When the Internet Options dialog box appears, click the Advanced tab. Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset. Then click Reset again.

Tried that to no avail, think I will use another browser when I can't access a site.

That's very strange, the site linked in your first post works fine for me in IE9 with default settings. It does try to run QuickTime but it should still run ok without it. I don't know what else to suggest :dunno:
