Has anyone tried using a Vodafone Suresignal with a BT 2700, up to now it has been trying to config for nearly an hour and the 3g light keeps flashing and does not complete.

I've not tried a Suresignal myself with any of my 2700's. However this seems to indicate it should work http://www.notsosuresignal.com/sure-signal/compatibility/compatible-routers/

This http://blog.hargrave.org.uk/2010/02/vodafone-sure-signalone-week-on.html however, seems to indicate that you need some ports forwarding??? I would guess that the SureSignal would normally try and do that with UPnP but the 2700 doesn't support it ( except for f/w 5.29.117.6 which appeared to have some undocumented support! ). You might try changing the firewall settings on the 2700 to either open those ports for the SureSignal or maybe even try putting it in the DMZPlus mode that the 2700 firewall offers.

Edit: you might also check that your MTU is set to 1500 (it normally is) on the 2700. There were some problems with using smaller MTU's
QuoteWhat seems to be happening is that the IKE_AUTH packet coming from vap.vodafone.co.uk doesn't get fragmented correctly. If the MTU is 1500 the fragments can be reassembled and negotiations succeed, but with anything less, reassembly fails and it's as if vap.vodafone.co.uk is not replying. I've tried with MTUs of 1492, 1462, 1400 and 576 and I get the same results -- one or two fragments which can't be reassembled.

Sounds like the SureSignal is trying to use Universal Plug 'n' Play to signal to the router the ports/port ranges it requires to be open but the 2700 doesn't support it or its disabled.

As it's a business router I'd suspect the former.

How strange, I went outside to cut the lawns and when I came back inside the darn thing had set it self up and I now have a full strength signal in the house. Now all I have to do is register my spare phone and Linda's phone and we are there. Thanks for the input I was starting to think it would not work.   ;D

Had I seen this earlier I would have confirmed it works fine with V4 and V6 2700s.

I originally set one up, in my remote Scottish location on a V4 - it took an hour or so but then logging on to the website was a pain because the Vodafone account had a hyphen, but the Suresignal logon did not like it! Then a couple of years later I replaced the V4 with a V6 and it was working immediately.

The delay, I believe, is down to the network having to interrogating all of the network BSCs, HLRs and VLRs and then feeding the Suresignal data back out to those.

I'm desperately trying to figure out why kamikaze pilots wore helmets.

I must admit it works really well and I know can use my mobile at home to ring all my mobile contacts and it's FREE  :thumb:

I expect you are right there as it will have to 'integrate' itself into the network much as a new base station has to.
