how do you change emails that are flagged as spam by IDNet.

have been waiting for some emails for a while but when they didnt arrive I looked at the webmail and they were in the junk folder marked as spam.Can this be changed somehow

Yep. Log into your customer portal and there you can either whitelist the specific addresses or turn off the spam filters completely.

Yes. It is a bit weird, that one. I have all mail filtering turned off completely. And some of my legitimate emails arrive in my inbox but flagged as spam.

No. I don't run a continuous AV on the Mac and the mail client handles possible spam very differently- it's down to the IDNet servers.

I can see the point (sort of)- it stops valid emails from being dumped in the junk folder and hence being missed on a normal POP3 mail run, but still alerts you to the fact that it doesn't really approve.

It's a minor irritation rather than a real problem- if you need to reply, just edit the spam marker out of the header.

I will if it gets to the stage of irritating me enough, at the moment I don't get enough spam to worry about it.

I'm a bit ambivalent about it tbh- it's rather like the MOT on the car. I'll roundly curse it if the car fails for something minor, but it's reassuring when it passes :dunno:

This happens to me as well.

In fact it's getting worse. I found two perfectly legit emails in my junk folder yesterday, one from my bosses company website and another from a personal friend  with a btinternet address. This is all very well, but it's too easy to miss important emails if you are using pop3 to your desktop. It means you have to keep logging in to webmail to check your junk folder!  :mad:

This has been raised before somewhere in these forums, http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php/topic,26165.msg624947.html#msg624947  it seems that idnet have gone OTT with their Spam filtering. and our only real option is to turn it off completely.
Also some messages are flagged as SPAM but let through, and it is the idnet server that is flagging them as Spam as I have seen them before logging on to my desktop and downloading them.

Yes I agree it is definitely the idnet filter doing the flagging, even when filtering is turned off. My AV does not offer spam filtering and I have no filtering set in my email client. Easy enough to remove from the subject header when replying to the few emails that get so flagged.

I happened to log on to IDnet webmail yesterday and discovered 21 emails in the junk folder dated from the previous ten days.
Only one of these was spam and included were a number of emails which I would have expected to receive on my computer and which were both legitimate and important.

Having searched the forum I see that I am not alone in suffering this problem and one solution is to turn off spam filtering.
Problem is I can't find any setting on webmail to do this - am I being a bit thick or having a 'senior moment'? Can someone point me in the right direction please.

Log in to the customer portal at: https://www.idnet.net/secure/

Go to Email > Existing accounts and against each account you have, you'll see 'message filtering'. Click on that, then 'Disable spam filter'.

I can't see that facility available within webmail but I did find a 'show source' option which was the only reason I wanted the view the mail locally.

It is, Zap. You can set the account up to be POP3 or IMAP (you can have different machines running different protocols). With IMAP, mail is stored in folder on the server and not deleted until you choose to do so. When you do, though, your local copy will also be deleted. POP3 transfers everything from the server to your local machine, deleting the server copy. I use IMAP on all but the main machine, which pulls everything off via POP, and clears the server. This ensures that I have a complete record of email on at least one machine.

Plus you can often set POP to leave a copy on the server until you delete/move it from your POP mail Inbox.

There are two ways I can see to get messages from the spam folders to your PC via webmail though neither is ideal.

When the server considers a message to be spam, it moves it to the folder called "Junk", presumably where you viewed it to see Source. When you looked at source, you got there by the dropdown menu on the cogwheel icon and selecting Show source. Instead, you could select Download (.eml). You get a save dialogue and can save it to your PC as a .eml file, which will open in your email client if you double click it. You have to do that for each one you want to download as there is no feature (that I can see) for doing it in bulk.

The other method is to turn off spam filtering in the email settings, as Rik has said. Then go to your PC and get your email as normal. The contents of the Junk folder will (I think) be downloaded along with your unflagged email.
If you do not want all of them, then you will first need to move the unwanted ones from Junk to Trash, which can be done in bulk, and then delete them from Trash.

I say "I think" because I know this works if you have never had spam filtering turned on. If spam filtering is off (and always was off), messages still get marked as spam and put into the Junk folder but they are downloaded when you Send/Receive from the PC email client. I am assuming this works just the same if you have had spam filtering turned on and then turn it off after the messages have been moved to the Junk folder. I can't test it because I have never had spam filtering turned on for any of my email accounts.

I want all my mail so I've now turned the spam filter off (I didn't realise it was on by default) and dealt with what had been trapped.
