I hope he wins. That said, how many times has MS broken something with an upgrade. It's the nature of the beast.

This was from 2009...many updates mess things up, as Rik said MS has had enough glitches too, and I am betting more people were ok than not with the update, just because he has a huge iQ does not mean he grasps his hardware may have been up the shoot, installing a new OS can show up issues with hardware when tens of thousands of files and drivers are being updated, seems like he is playing his IQ card for the sake of it.

I don't think the issue is so much the fact that the update broke his computer, as Rik said this isn't really unusual, but that Apple were unwilling to resolve the problem.

If he had reported it and the machine needed to be sent back in for repair they would have done so or asked him to reformat his machine at the worst which is dead easy, if he was out of warranty then no not much to do, If you have an issue and your copy of Windows is OEM Microsoft charge you, also there is a help forum for Apple users, but Customer care will be helpful people have upgraded to lion(I know that was not his issue but its an example), not liked it and have reverted happily to Snow leopard and gotten refunds, something seems a bit odd here. If he was talking about updating to Snow leopard thousands of people did that fine, if it went wrong you clean install, if your computer goes wrong Apple will fix it, if you are out of warranty then you pay for it to be fixed like most people have to if its a hardware issue, if its just software, reinstall what you have already same as Microsoft. If he had no backups so much for his IQ Trading standards does say you are not entitled to refunds on physical software but a replacement, that goes for games as well.

Personally I'd say one person with a software gripe is a glowing endorsement of the product. If it was tens of thousands I'd probably sit up and take notice

They offer a complete product.  You either like it or you don't.  If you don't, then don't buy Apple gear.  'Social awareness' has nothing whatever to do with it.

I have never liked anything produced by Apple and abhor their attitude to other companies that want to compete in the same areas.  Apple want to dictate all software, hardware, on-line shopping and modifications to hardware and software therefor not having any consideration of their users and denying them the ability to customise all these things the way they want them.  Apple want to rule the personal PC world with their ideology at the expense of any other competition or freedoms.  They have their Mullahs and Jobs is like an Ayatollah.

Have you ever actually used one, though, Alf?  Whilst I agree that they are very controlling, for people who have the money, and just want something to work out the box, with little customisation or modifications, they are ideal.  I've never used a Mac, but have an iPhone, and I thought the same as you, but having used the product, you can't argue with their simplicity.

I agree Simon. The majority of the public don't need to have the extreme customisation and just want something simple and easy to use, whilst still having the power to complete more serious tasks.
