I am a Fritz!Box convert. For those considering purchasing one of these boxes, then a visit to the company website MOM 'ILC is recommended. A 7390 can be purchased for £181 inc tax and free delivery.

See http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=1690921 for information about the the performance of this VDSL-capable modem/router on a FTTC line.

I purchased 2 Fritz!Fons from this company so I also have personal knowledge of their excellent customer service and better than UK pricing.

Great router, lots of features, but not very stable on my ADSL Max connection compared to a 2700

I cannot comment on ADSL Max but the latest beta firmware (20267) available from Fritz!Labs has a new ADSL engine. My ADSL2+ connection is now very stable at SNRs down to 2 with a 17.8Mbps connection speed.

Yep got that installed, seems no different to me than any of the other ones, drops connection on a random basis

Well I'm not actually a new Fritz!Box user , but have just found these forums, and have to agree with the poster Ardua.

The cheapest supplier that i have found is the French supplier Momilc. He just wants to answer his messages a bit quicker

I have had two 7390's , sold me first one at a small profit when I couldn't get caller ID to show up. Just started me second one and it is perfect.
Easy to set up on Fibre, not too hard to configure and Caller ID works, plus I am also using the Fritz!Fon MT-F Dect phone.

Hardest part has been finding like minded Fritz users, the only real forum that has been available is the Aussie one, but Just found a new English speaking one http://www.fritzforum.com  . Not a lot there at the moment as it looks like they have just started, but if you want to get in on the bottom rung then why not register there and ask your questions.
The more information Fritz users can get the better.

Any way gotta look around the forum, always looking for hints and tips regarding the FritzBox.

Your Welcome. Like I said he has just started the forum, but its hard for him to get started. Never was a very large customer base for AVM products but at least his is trying with a English speaking European forum . He just needs more users posting.

Me I am always looking for any info on the product.

Hi Steve. he puts his prices up and down every so often. His top price for the 7390 was about 202 euros, occasionally he does it for 190 Euros and if you watch his site , he sometimes does it for 185 Euros. That's what I just got my one for.

His big problem is he is a one man band, and sometimes it is hard getting a reply to a query.
Got my last order after a delay and emailed him saying I had got the order and said he has to improve his communication with the customers.Lets hope he learns from it.
But as you say , it is a good price for what it offers Modem/router, integrated answer machines (5) integrated  Fax machine, Dect base station, Voip, you can go on and on .

Momilc isn't the fastest at dispatching things, I mailed today to see whether the router had been dispatched, apparently it will go out on Thursday.  :dunno:

I've had a fair amount of recent PM contact with the bloke running the new UK Fritz forum. With a less than optimum FTTC line I'm trying to put together a post for a new thread at his request that starts a comparison of my experience compared with the Echolife. So he's certainly looking for any substantive contributions to start debate and to add to the substantive comments on your experience. Posting is a bit of a chore as he's requiring approval to exclude spammers at the mo, but persist.

I'm a bit disappointed that beta firmware lacks access to any on-line help, as the manual is so poor and so often refers you to the on-line help, though most functions are fairly intuitive with a bit of imagination. I know the ADSL DSLAMS are less responsive than those for VDSL, but doesn't the ability to alter some line settings help with stability issues (at a cost in speed, obviously)?

The main point about the Fritz! is that its USP is dual broadband and PABX/DECT functionality (so if you don't want the latter, why pay so much?)  and its a consumer product, designed as a sort of plug and play though multi-function; and therefore frustrating to those that like to tinker with the firmware as a hobby. Unless you also understand German, of course . . . The other thing is that the Int/UK version is adapted for foreign use to their home market, so it doesn't have BT "support" and you should bear in mind you're not using a "native" product which you'll occasionally notice with the functionality  (but less than you might expect). (If you want 300Mbps capability wait for the new versions though, and even longer for BT).

On my poor line, its been stable (but so was the Echolife, both with a much better experience than I had on ADSL), but seems better at coping with my tones which are all in the lower frequencies (perhaps because its default is Annex A). For those with better lines, I'm not sure I've seen any broadband improvement yet.

Bugbears are if you get odd phantom rings and hit and miss analogue CLI with VDSL (not with ADSL it seems). However if you have enough spare minutes on a call costs inclusive plan e.g. as Idnet offer, then using the diversion facility to run PSTN calls through a free-for-incoming calls (e.g. Sipgate) VOIP number deals with both (and improves call quality to boot) and I have a second VOIP number to replace the analogue fax receiving option too (occasionally useful for business documents).

The  Fritzbox 7390 arrived on Monday, I have been trying to connect to configure it, but without success, it doesn't seem to be issuing a DHCP address. Trying to connect via fritz.box or 192.168.178.1 just results in a page not found.

I have tried with 2 Win 7 PC's and a Mac running OSX Lion, also 2 different patch leads, any ideas as to what else I can try?

Steve

Is the wifi enabled? You should be able to sniff out the IP address and then connect via static IP address over ethernet possibly. Although I'm not which static IP address or subnet to set?

Running out of ideas now

Try setting one of the pc's ip's manually say 192.168.178.2 255.255.255.0 and disabling ipv6
