You could argue that they have been given to much money. Scotland has less than 10% of the population, but has been given more than 10% of the money.

Not sure what tyres has got to do with a telephone?!? I guess it's easier to switch subjects  ;)

I could of course raise the stakes and argue that if it wasn't for the English a lot of Scots would be stuck in a swamp somewhere in Panama.
