My Egg Money Card has offered me free access to Prevx SafeOnline. Has anybody here tried it.?

It states that you can run it alongside your antivirus programme.

Use it on Justina's Laptop its very effective tiny download has a few false positives now and then but is very good, finds stuff that many AV's dont find

Think ray uses it too

I have been using Prevx in it's various forms since Prevx2. If the version you are being offered is the free one there are some limitations you need to be aware of. I have to go out shortly but will post back after dinner when I have time.

What browser and version of browser do you use Lona, it is very relevant.

The free one I remember shows you the path to the issues, the paid for version downloads a removal tool for nasties, there has been quite a few variations on a theme.

As Gary said the free version of prevx will only alert to a malware infection, but knowing you have an infection you can then either buy the full version or use the AV you have to remove it or use something like Hitman Pro to clean up with. It will also run alongside virtually any other security software except ones that use sandboxing.
Why the bank are offering it to you is so that you can protect the browser with the SafeOnline part of it which is fully functional in both the paid and free versions. SOL isolates the browser from the operating system when you connect to a protected website (usually but not always an https site) so that if you do have an undetected keylogger etc on the system it is unable to see what you are typing onto a secure page, be it log in credentials or credit card details. The drawback with Prevx 3.0 SOL is that if you use Firefox the SOL element will only work with the 3.-- versions, it is not compatible with FF 4 onwards. Also, it will not provide full protection against 'Man in the Browser' attacks on 64bit systems. The MitB attacks are what we see from Zeus, SpyEye, Carberp and other browser stealers. These are not Keyloggers per se and most Anti Keyloggers are blind to them.
If you are using a Windows 64bit OS or the later versions of Firefox and Chrome then you are better off using Trusteer Rapport at the moment until the new version of Prevx is released.
The new version of Prevx (Alpha was P4, beta is Webroot SecureAnywhere) is a different animal altogether and is much more of a suite with full 64bit protection, firewall etc and can be configured as default deny, almost like an AntiExecutable.

Prevx SOL is not compatible with FF6 so if you feel you need browser protection for shopping/banking etc the only option at the moment is Trusteer Rapport which is free but needs the settings tweaked to get the best protection from it.
