I think the company will go on from strength to strength over the next few years,however Steve Jobs was a great innovator and it's where Apple go in the long term that's my worry.

I'm hoping that Apple will now ditch the restrictive itunes with iphones, and allow you to use what bleedin ring tones you want on your own phone that you pay a bloody fortune for. As for installing on a new PC and wiping your entire music collection, yes, that was a fun feature I hope they'll change.

There is a LOT of room for improvements, but we know they wont do a sodding thing to improve how the iphone works, or is set up. I'm more interested to see how the Galaxy range, or it's replacement will cope after the recent news on that court case.

Oh, and stop shafting people with extortionate pricing on the ipads. I'd love to have an ipad, purely for the simplicity of it so my mum can use it whilst watching TV. The trouble it would save me would be immense, but tiny amounts of memory storage for an astronomical price just makes it completely unjustifiable.

Really. I thought iOS version 5 is just about to be released so I make that 4 major improvements (assuming each update is an improvement). In fact, iOS 5 is one if the biggest improvements they've made, with computerless setup, icloud and twitter integration, delta updates over the air, wireless sync with iTunes and much more I can't remember off the top of my head or that I even know about.

I don't see it being popular to stop people storing their own data on their own devices, by their own choice. I know, sometimes, "Apple" and "choice" don't quite go together, but that would be taking things too far, in my opinion.

That was the only original feature stopping me from getting an Iphone. I only use my phone on silent/vibrate now. But back then, I had my own recordings etc for ring tones. I liked to have music etc for each caller. On my existing phone I could set a different one per person, for FREE! Yet everything on the Iphone was restricted or absent from the feature list.

I expect the "cloud" to be as successful as electric cars. It's a good idea in theory, nearly impossible in practice.

I'm not sure about that. I'm also not sure that I like the idea but I think it's easy enough for the big providers to ensure its success whether we like it or not. I suspect the concept of 'owning' (which of course you don't in reality) a piece of software is about to go out of the window. There's a definite move towards purchasing a slab of time on a product rather than the product itself. It has so many major advantages for the provider I honestly can't see it not happening. I suspect that if every person that uses it only stores encypted files in the 'cloud' it won't be successful. From my (Cynical) point of view the biggest advantage is to the host (Apple, Google, Microsoft, Facebook or whoever) in that they will be able to interrogate your standard format (.docx, .xlsx, .pdf, etc.) data and learn more about you for advertising purposes. Naturally, close to 100% of people have no clue about these things and will just go along with it ensuring bigger profits for the providers.

I think the biggest advantage of iCloud - at least to an iPhone/Mac user - will be the ability to sync calendars, address books and so on, across multiple devices. Switch on the device and it automatically syncs, the only problem being that you can't encrypt these whilst they're on Apple's servers. It will be ease of use that sells it to the masses, although provided you can do your own sync over your home LAN, a great many might not bother.

AFAICT there's no problem with storing other stuff in an encrypted form, just like you can do with DropBox, SugarSync and doubtless others. Apple has not really said much so we'll have to see.

So this doesn't get muddled in the cloud discussion... looking back, this quote relates to ringtones. One of the first things I did when I got my 3GS was put a custom ring tone on it using nothing more than iTunes and windows explorer (to change a file extension). I've had the same ring tone ever since so don't know if it is still possible to do this.

Oh, I would think I own it as soon as it reaches my HDD. However, I do not have the power, and probably no right, to take it or keep it when the heavies show up.

I can't imagine that a man like that would give up the power he wielded unless he had to so while I do wish him a recovery and hope we are all wrong, I don't think he's going to be around long.

Every guide I've tried, didn't work after an update so I haven't tried since. Admittedly that was about 6 months ago and there have been 4 or more updates in that time, so it could work now, but seriously why should you have to use third party programs to do something that should work immediately from within the phone, like every other phone does?

I even bought ringtones through itunes and they wouldn't work with the phone. At the time it was US only iphones that it would work with. No idea if that's still the case or not.

You don't even need 3rd party apps. Just convert the file in iTunes, rename it, then add it as a ringtone and sync.

If thats to hard there is a free app called "ringtones" that is a bit easier.

One thing is to make sure you leave the original file in the iTunes folder, so 'Keep File', rather than 'Move to Recycle Bin', when you delete it from your library.
