Mail - Problems Anybody?

Mail seems to be a bit hit and miss this morning. I have had 2 addresses asking for a password. One address has just comeback online: the other hasn't. Two other email addresses are working normally

All working fine here using four addresses on my iMac.

Just spoken to Support who say that there is probably a problem with the account password. How can it be that something works fine for months and then fails? How can it be that 30 minutes ago, I was 2 addresses down and now one has recovered?

Edit:

And Webmail log in works fine for the failed address?

All 4 are IDNet e-mail addresses. All are now working fine without any intervention from me but I fear that thanks to another dismissive response to my problem from a certain person at IDNet Support that I may well be looking for another ISP in the near future.

Personally I'd ask to talk to Simon or Tim as if the person is damaging the support reputation of their business I'm sure they'd want to know (I know I would)

I can only assume it was a temporary server glitch or an issue with one of the nodes that make up their mail cluster (I don't know anything about their infrastructure so can only make a vague guess, sorry)

Thanks. I am a little sensitive today as my daughter is relocating back to the UK from Canada (after 3 years) and she will lose most of her IT until she takes up her new position with her Company in London. She has her IDNet e-mail address set up on her BB (which may not work as it is locked to Rogers Canada and her Company VPN which they have disconnected the BB from) and her personal IPAD. I have suggested to her that she needs to think IPAD and IDNet webmail if the 'glitch' occurs again.

Having had a response from Simon, I am not sure that IDNet see it as anything but my problem!  I had 2 computers on at the time (one in use and the other Mac asleep), I then switched computers and both were showing that there was an issue. I therefore lean towards your view. I have had no further problems today so hopefully it was just 'one of those things'.

As someone who supports online systems as well as software I can tell you that such server glitches do sometimes occur and disappear just as quickly with no apparent cause.

Could just be a certain condition on the affected account at a certain time.

If it had been a server issue it would have been a rather peculiar one to have targeted just 2 of Ardua's 4 addresses (out of the 8,000 that it hosts).

Hi Simon

As I say I don't know and yes it would and the server glitches I am talking about tend to be service wide when they happen.

Maybe you need to check your data centre for gremlins running around  ;D

The 2 e-mail addresses that 'wobbled' were set up years after the 2 that didn't - different servers perhaps? Everything is fine today and I suggest that we just park this one in the 'we will never know category'.
