my daughter has a mac and recently it keeps losing connection to internet.any one have ideas as ive none at all in mac world  :)  wouldnt know where to start.

it works ok for may be 1 hour then drops.she says there has been a 'your network configuration has changed' message but we have not actually changed a thing.

is this going to be a mac vs windows conflict problem :)

Could you give us a bit more info Baz,

Is it connected wirelessly via Airport or with a Ethernet lead?

What is the Mac and the OS version its running?

It's probably not a Mac v Windows problem more likely a Mac v Router problem.

Baz

yeah sorry for the lack of info unless I get some pointers ive no idea at all with macs,at the moment any how :D  so thanks for the leads

connected wireless to netgear dg834pn. 3 other laptops work ok on this and my system which is hard wired.
Ive seen the Airport on the settings so I guess that is the Mac way/name for it is it?

its a Mac book pro running OS X 10.6.8

Thanks Baz,

Can she try the following things and see if it helps, it not let us know and we can delve deeper!

1)Go to System Preference>Network and click on the little cog towards the lower left of the window and select "set service order" in the next window drag Wifi (Airport) to the top of the list and click "ok" on the next window click "apply" Try this and see if it helps if not try the next step.

2) Go to System Preference>Network, click "Wifi" in the right window and then "advanced", click the "wifi" tap and look in the preferred networks window, if your network is not shown click the + button and add it, click "ok" "ok" and "apply", if it was shown in the window but not top of the list move it to the top and click "ok" and "apply"

If this doesn't work we will have to look at deleting the wifi network and reapplying or giving the Mac a manual IP address.
