If you are planning to port your number be careful.

They sent me a SIM out with a different number to the temporary number shown on the account and they told me the SIM had been deactivated when they traced its serial number.

Complete morons.

I always change my number when I get a new phone. That way I can stop people that phone me, from phoning me. I'm rapidly becoming Howard Hughes.

I've had the same number for as long as I can remember.  I've only ever had two different numbers.

You might be alright then or you could always prop up that dying industry known as the phonebox  ;D

I might as well just ask a stranger to pee on my hands if I'm using a phone box :D

Initial impressions compared to 3GS , love the screen resolution,it's so very much quicker and the camera's now usable. Managed a fairly straight forward setup and it's not been anywhere near iTunes, all my required Apps downloaded from the cloud.

I don't like this cloud business.  My 3GS will sync with iTunes wirelessly now, but it still needs connecting to mains power.  :stars:  Will the 4S sync wirelessly without a power connection?

Haven't got that far yet but I suspect it will be the same as the 3GS, my guess is to avoid data corruption should the battery die during sync.

At work signal strength is fairly poor on the 3GS , The 4S at the same location is performing much better ie I can use for data without frequent dropouts

I've noticed the 3G signal is better with IOS 5 on the 3GS too.

Yep that philosophy keeps me employed.

Good review here for the 4S, I must admit the signal is brilliant, it holds here really well and I live 1.3km from the nearest cell tower with loads of obstructions (O2) http://www.reghardware.com/2011/10/18/review_apple_iphone_4s_smartphone/

Yes it does, what it means is when you have the phone on charge overnight and the screen goes blank it syncs, but you can do it manually at at any time on just battery takes a few minutes after the first bigger one. I'm not using iCloud, I dont like data floating about on a server somewhere tbh. Also I dont really need to use it at this time.

A worthwhile upgrade from the 4, Gary?

The wait will be worth it - as long as you don't throw it at anything. ;)

I think the iPhone 4S with IOS5 is a very rounded performer and the build quality to me feels exceptional. IOS5 is very refined,it's slick it works (Siri excluded) with the added advantage that iTunes sync  is no longer essential . iCloud functions as I need it to,which ever device I use the same data is available. I'm not to worried about confidentiality or potential data loss with iCloud as I'm sure there's more chance of me losing the phone. So it's a thumbs up from me.

I'm reserving judgement,it relies on a connection to Apple's servers,my experience so far with relatively poor 3G reception areas have met with limited success. Plus I feel a bit self conscious wondering around talking to myself.

I have been using Siri loads, I don't care what peeps think of me if I talk to my phone, its more than most people do with them these days anyway ;)
