Anyone got one and got the recording going? I'm trying to use a portable 500gb drive, one that is just USB powered. The TV sees drive and formats it but recordings don't appear to work so my thinking is I need a powered one?

I have a Panasonic Freesat box but don't think it has USB host status meaning the current probably won't be enough to drive a USB powered hard disk drive.

As for whether you can use one at all I'm not sure as rememmber some of the channels are protected by HDCP.

It has a dedicated USB HDD port, the manual tells you all about it so it's supposed to work. Wouldn't mind betting there's only a certain type you can use

Hi

It says you cannot record radio progreammes, analogue channels and some programmes maybe prevented from being recorded.

You also cannot watch anything back on any other device.

Additionally it shows a powered drive so my thinking is the same as yours.

I know that Samsung requires the use of their own drive, so I suspect they will all be doing that to allow them to pump up the prices.

The manual does not mention the use of a Panasonic drive.
