My options

I have been back in hospital for 2 weeks today They have decided that I can't go home, but need residential care. I will have to stay in hospital while they find me a placement.

This leads me to my question. I won't have access to a landline or virgin, so will be stuck with a dongle. Last time I was in "care" I had a 3 dongle contract and found it rubbish, Would I be better with one of those MiFI mobile things and with which company do I go with.

Sorry to hear about your circumstances Tina.

Do you know where you will be transferred to? Dongles are ultimately only as good as the 3G signal in that given area but there are ways of working out which provider has the best 3G coverage in any given area.

I'm not sure, but I think the benefit of a mifi device is that you can connect multiple devices to it as well as position it to get a better signal. I've never used one so don't really know.

At least you can place the MIFi in the strongest area of signal i.e. windowsill . Hope things improve Tina

how do I find out which to go for? are they all contract?

You can look at the coverage maps for the operators but I would advise that you wait until you are placed before you commit to anything.

As far as I know Mi-fi devices are generally contract but dongles can be bought on a PAYG basis.

Orange and T-mobile have agreed to share 3G networks so in theory this should lead to a coverage improvement.
