What's new in iTunes 10.5

iTunes in the Cloud. iTunes now stores your music and TV purchases in iCloud and makes them available on your devices anywhere, any time, at no additional cost.

Automatic Downloads. Purchase music from any device or computer and automatically download a copy to your Mac and iOS devices.

Download Previous Purchases. Download your past music, TV, app, and book purchases again, at no additional cost. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store.

Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5.

Wi-Fi Syncing. Automatically sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes any time they're both on the same Wi-Fi network.

Looks a way of encourage people to buy more Apple family products. Every device whether it be phone iPad or computer will have the same content available. Admittedly I'm fond of the idea but my needs relate more simply to calendars,bookmarks and contacts than music or films.

iCloud and IOS5 are out tomorrow so this release is ahead of the game

My thinking is the iTunes portions of iCloud will be fine on SL, however the good bits ie mail,calendars and bookmarks synchronisation require Lion.

iCloud seems more complicated than it needs, you merge your calendars etc with iCloud and it messes up, you edit something on your iPhone you get duplicate entries, also its a not a cloud its a server, and no way do I trust my info on servers right now. Unless you own multiple Apple devices, or need to have an certain things synced instantly with your ipad/iphone/imac...most people dont need it really.

I wonder why your getting duplicate entries? It's not something I'm suffering from yet,hopefully if I can keep my phone away from iTunes I'll be ok. I agree with your last comment and that's why I use it.

I'm not the only one, Steve. Apple forums are full of people with the same issue iCloud creates a new Calendar with identities much like mobile me, but it does not say that, so you end up with an icloud one and a iCal entry for each event. Not merging actually makes it better Apple need to get onto that one. Even with iCloud you still need to sync somethings with iTunes, like your music, so its not PC free in reality yet. Also you cant restore without iTunes either, I just turned it all off and sync via iTunes only, I have no need to do otherwise in my case anyway.

That is all a cloud is ever going to be. The cloud part is not needing to worry about the management of the server (space, backups etc), or how to locate the server over the web (ip address, protocols etc).
