My mum could do with one as she always turns her mobile off to save the battery. :slap:

Did have to check the date at first.

It's all very well the phone lasting on standby for 15 years, but are there any SIM cards that don't deactivate after a period of non-use?

Sounds like it might have been ideal for me as I rarely use my mobile, probably less than once a month. However I don't think I'd pay to replace it with one where the battery lasted 15 years as mine lasts at least a few weeks because it's so rarely turned on.

Probably not but for emergencies, which this phone would be ideal for, you don't actually need a sim card in the phone anyway.

pctech

Think you do in the UK anyway for ID purposes.

Simon

Some phones do say 'Emergency Calls Only' when a SIM card isn't installed or active, but others won't even switch on without one.

The GSM/3G standard does technically allow for SIMless emergency calling but even though all UK networks are obliged to carry 999 traffic irrespective of whether the phone has their specific SIM in it or not they block any without a SIM as there'd be no phone number to trace back.

Steve

So you can use a locked phone to dial 999.

And lots of people do it accidentally. :)

The phone doesn't appear to me to have a display, it just looks like a window showing part of the battery.

pctech

That's why I did wonder whether it was April 1st.

Simon

I guess, as long as it has numbers on it, you don't really need a display to use it.
