Getting near the time to change my beloved/not beloved (delete as necessary) netgear dg834gv2.
Has been switched on constantly for nearly 2 years, has not caused any problems normally BUT over the last couple of months it's dropping the server connx with the message lcp down etc. on a fairly regular basis. I know that it might not be the netgears fault but I do feel that 2 years constant use is pushing things a little. I will keep it as a spare of course.
I will require a modem/router that is capable of receiving the newish bbc trials (something that netgear doesn't do for some reason). Cost is no prob.
Any recommendations by members gratefully received.

Speedtouch 585 v6? Also tweakable with the DMT tool.

I would agree with that, Rik, I normally use the DG834 V3, but If I want to use my Laptop on wireless I swap over to my Speedtouch 585 v6 - I've always found it to be a very good wireless router.

They are the two brands that I've had most success with, Ray, but I did notice that DSL Depot had a B-grade Draytek 2600+ for a very reasonable price. I used to use one pre-Max, and it was brilliant, but it didn't go well on my line with Max. For anyone with a good line, it's a bargain at £25.

I have been using a Talk Talk ( read Philips ) Modem/Router for the last week or so, got it £25.50 delivered from eBuyer, ( package includes a Wireless USB Dongle ). and 1GB Flash Drive to get the price over £30 so that I could get the Google £10 discount.

I have to say that I am impressed with it, I dumped the TalkTalk software and am using Philips software on it now, rock solid so far and a better wireless connection than my old(ish ) BT 2100.

I would definitely recommend the Speedtouch,you can iron out all the kinks using DMT tool,keeps your connection nice and stable.

Mind you having chatted to a guy yesterday who lives 100 metres from his exchange and is on Be........yes the *** gets the full 24 MB service

perhaps we should all find somewhere next to an unbundled exchange.

When I went through the 10 day thing last year with last ISP I was getting 36mb (yes really!) Now if my line can get that speed why didn't they offer it? Or am I talking out of my backside as usual?

It must have been unbundled, Eve. BT don't offer such a speed.

I don't know lol that's what it was during the 10 day thing then it went to almost 5 and stayed there for 3 weeks then to 1.80mb when I had the problem with my extension socket.

Tiz not possible.......there is no 36MB service.
Fibre optic and the right equipment can deliver 100MB but we don't have that here.......a move to Korea is required for a reliable service of that speed.

This was last July, can't remember the place I did the speed test. It did begin with broadband so broadband place or something like that and it was tested through the AOL browser, though that should say it all lol

It's so tempting when Virgin Media has 20mb package, but heard so many bad things about them.
