Ahoy!

Recently I've been having problems with the assholes at BT (/pretend *shock*).  Due to some extenuating circumstances one month I had to pay my bill late and I knew in advance I would be paying it late and thus informed BT of the situation.  After having a chat with a few advisors I was told that it wouldn't be a problem because I kept them informed of the situation but they did give me a date to pay by - that date was the 29/05/2007.  During this time however my line would be restricted on the incoming/outgoing calls, no problem though It'll be paid soon enough.

The bill was paid online using my CC on the 26/05/2007 - great! just in time then! But no....... After being told that my line would be reconnected within 24hrs of the bill being cleared I waited till the Wednesday (30/05/2007) before calling them up to find out what the hell was going on.

Now this is the point where you will have to forgive me if I go off on one......After several increasingly angry phonecalls I find out that I am to recieve a final bill for the line because THEY SAY the payment was only recieved on the 29/05/2007 due to the UK Bank Holiday!!! Despite the fact it was paid online and the funds where transfered instantly! >_<

So now BT say a final bill is on its way for the line and I have to pay that before they will reinstate full service, but my main concern is that of my internet line which I heavily depend on for my college/uni coursework.  I dont know if anyone from IDNET reads here but the policy to me seems a total grey area.  I ask BT if they are going to pull the plug on my internet connection during this time and they say its nothing to do with them as thats to do with the 3rd party that provides me with the service.  However, I have heard from other people that BT remove the equipment from the exchange even if you continue paying your ISP for a service you dont have (in theory).

Like I said before, If I was to lose my net connection it would quickly become a disaster, let alone also become VERY expensive to pay for reconnections to everything which I can barely afford as it is!

Any input/feedback I can get on what to do would be greatly appreciated and anything IDNET can do for or tell me would be a huge bonus :)

Anyway....

/end rant  :P

BT are right in what they say, from their POV. Any payment received during the weekend would not be credited until the next working day, which would have been May 29. However, unless you were seriously delinquent, or have a bad history with them, they seem to be reacting rather strongly.

It's unfortunate you didn't post earlier in the day, because it's too late to make contact with them until Monday now. If you are confident of your case, I'd suggest an email to ben.Verwaayen at bt.com, obviously change the at to an @. He takes customer service seriously, and someone will look at your situation.

Meantime, it would do no harm to advise IDNet, support@idnet.net, so that they are aware of the potential problem. They will be able to give you further advice.

Dealing with large companies can get like that, sadly. :(

Desaan,

You havn't told us if this is a quarterly payment or a direct debit monthly plan, if the latter, they may just be withdrawing that facility.

I have to be honest and say I have never had a single problem with BT in many..many years, always very helpful.
Anything and everything that I post on here is purely my opinion, it ain't going to change the world, you are under no obligation to agree with me, it is purely my expressed opinion.
