Draytek 2820vn

I have had this router for a long time and i am really happy with it. Its one of the most stable routers i have had in almost 10 years.  I do however notice that if i run traceroute (or tracert for windows users) the router is responding as "my.router" and i was wondering if its possible to change that at all? Draytek dont seem to be big on the whole documentation side of things.

Have you tried the telnet function ?

heh, guess my googling skills have a bit of room for improvement.

Thanks for the swift reply. After playing around, it seems that this is composed of two variables. sys name and sys domainname

(in my case i had to specify wan1 or wan2)

sys name wan1 test
sys domainname wan1 homenetwork

1  test.homenetwork (10.0.0.1)  0.402 ms  0.396 ms  0.396 ms

Have you tried in a similar format i.e. dhcp.server and see if it then doesn't add .router

I used to use a Draytek 120 it's only a modem but a fine one at nevertheless.

I'm Baack!! 

I just bought a second 2820 however its just a plain old 2820 not 2820vn like my current.

My question to you is, my primary router (the 2820vn) has firmware with a modem code of 211801 however the new router has older firmware with a modem code of 232201.

Can anyone advise what the differences are? I live in the UK and currently unable to get ADSL2 in my area so does it matter if i put the new firmware on with either modem code or could i risk bricking it if i put 211801 on it?

They both seem to use the same firmware so in theory you should be safe, I did find this.

NOTE: ADSL Modem Codes
For general purpose usage on UK lines, modem code 232201 is recommened
For ADSL2+ Annex M lines, the latest modem code 2471201 is suggested
For line speeds of less than 4Mbps, on lower quality lines a modem code with more conservative paramaters, 211801 is suggested

Upgrading to the latest firmware was worth the effort for me.
