Windows 7 - Google now displays your IP address.

If you now type in "What is my IP address" into Google search it displays it at the top of page.   :D

It's not just Windows. Google is operating system agnostic.

Nothing new here.

There have been sites that have done it for years, google is just displaying information it has already, in fact all servers have to record this information to enable them to address the packets they are sending back to you, in the same way someone has to write your address on a letter addressed to you.

This information is only displayed if the query is sent from your connection though.

If you were to put the IP into something such as the RIPE database it would return IDNet's details so I wouldn't worry Den.

I have a small IP allocation and so my name appears on the RIPE database but the details are that of my ISP as they delegate it out of their Class C allocation.

If this still scares you its time to get off the Internet and definitely don't look at any webserver logs.

Your IP address is also visible to the moderators and owners of this forum,

Classful IP allocations. How very early 1990s. Your ISP probably has a /20 or bigger.

You are right there but I did not look into it that deeply when I responded.
