True. Mind you, some leads are not removable (at least on older monitors I've seen). So checking the whole monitor first, then the cable second, if your not able to do the first check. :)
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

My old Xerox monitor had a fixed (captive) cable.
