HTC admits phones "could be better".

HTC has admitted its latest batch of smartphones aren't good enough, as the company posted disastrous January sales figures.

The company's latest monthly sales figures are more than 50% down on the same month last year, plummeting to 16m Taiwanese dollars. The company had previously reported a sharp drop in sales of 22% from the third to the fourth quarter of 2011.

HTC was one of the early Android smartphone pioneers, and won plaudits from PC Pro and customers alike for its HTC Sense interface and wide range of affordable, high quality handsets.

However, it has since been caught up and surpassed by companies such as Samsung, with HTC executives admitting its current range of handsets have failed to impress.

Making them more reliable would be a start, son had one which lasted a year before it became faulty, we're now on the third one month later. Build quality and materials really are quite poor.

Build quality aside, with Android and HTC Sense, they're all the same but different sizes, so there's no novelty value in upgrading any more.

And you would miss your novelty value.

I definitely prefer the Sony Ericsson Ray over the HTC Desire S.

Its very heavy in comparison with the Ray and IMO some of the design features are a bit bizare.

Maybe its because I'm a lefty but found that when I cupped the bottom of the phone with my hand it lost most the signal, it turns out the antennas are in the bottom.

This is encouraging as the new one is due here around 1 pm.................. still got my bb  and who knows where the new one will end up

I agree, my daughters got a HTC phone which developed a fault and when she took it back to the shop they said they said with HTC she would have to deal with HTC's support directly which cost me a few pounds in telephone calls and she had to send it away to them for repair. The shop said with other makes of phones they could have sorted it for her.

Isn't it a legal obligation of the retailer to sort it, like everything else?

I think you are correct Simon the contract is with the retailer I would have thought and this would be my first port of call

thats strange we have 3 HTC phones and all are ok.only thing we've noticed on one is the bad reception in the house,texts not getting picked till hour later sometimes.

I've got one room in the house where the phones constantly 'roam' from Orange to T-Mobile and back, Baz. Quite literally, moving it a few inches will prompt the shift. Wireless is a funny thing...

yeah its very frustrating thats all.the bad one is my daughters and most of her texts are work related so missing them is not good at times.Called orange about it and they basically said try emptying old txts,turning phone off when charging instead of tricklw charge etc.  rubbish really.it didnt work.

if not that may be a faulty phone

What sort of signal strength does it show?

as you say with yours some places is bad other is better but its strange that the other 2 are ok.

may be it is the phone.
