Ipod for first time

My friend has bought an ipod and needs to know is there an easy way to set one of these up ? she is stuck at the moment and was told she needs to sign up for classes !!!

Surely there is a easy basic set up

All she should need to do is install iTunes onto her computer and plug the iPod in.  What's she actually stuck on?

She is trying to connect to cloud and mail whatever that is Simon

I think she is having problems getting online with it or do you download iTunes to pc then install from there ?

Connecting to iTunes is the easiest way to get music on it. iCloud and Mail - she needs to create an iCloud or use an existing iCloud/iTunes store account this will also automatically create an iCloud mail account. Other Mail accounts can also be setup manually. Obviously to do these it needs to be connected to the Internet via the in built WiFi

Oddly, I had a message through itunes today, telling me I have to pay £29 or there abouts, to use icloud, to upload my music. Seems a bit hypocritical wanting me to upload music I've paid for, to their services, when they don't allow me to transfer mine elsewhere I'm not paying for that anyway, I can rip the CDs again if I lose it.

Oh, and also, every time I log in lately it's telling me to authorise my PC, when I do it tells me I already have, and have used 3 activations. Very odd.

 The only subscription service I'm aware of is iTunes Match @ £21.99 this service makes your entire iTunes music library available via iCloud to any of your authorised devices whether that be Desktop,laptop,iPhone etc. Obviously you don't lose any music by not having it . It's more a convenience in some ways as if you want to play a particular track/album on your phone which you've not copied over it will be available for download from your own iCloud library.

If 50% of just iPod total sales, pay for the service, that is around £3.6bn  add iPhone sale to that too...

I can see it doing well in the US but here I expect it's a minority product.
