How very odd

Just powered on after work, and as usual went to check my router stats (dunno why I do that every day - but maybe I'm just anal).

Anyhoo, had a disconnect at 12:53 today for 12 seconds on the ADSL line (after a record 12 days without an interruption, or a reboot of the router, or me just generally fidgeting with the damn thing).

The weird part is, my internet connection has still been live for 13 days and 21 hours. HTH can my internet connection survive a router re-connect?

Is there a ghost on the line?  >:D

I wonder if you lost authentication, but not sync?

It certainly could be that, Lance, or just a bug in the router firmware. The latest version for the Netgear DG834G fails to record re-syncs, and shows a continuous connection in the up time.

Not a Netgear (thoug I do have one in the cupboard). My router is a Speedtouch 585v6, though I'm still willing to accept a possible firmware bug.

Not a big issue, really. I wasn't home at the time, both PCs were turned off, and I have wireless disabled (so no-one casually passing by would have been inconvenienced had they been able to circumvent the WPA2 encryption - I'm very public spirited - don;t get their hopes up in the first place).

It just looks odd in my stats - ADSL for 1 day, internet for 14 :)

Speedtouch routers do this,I have seen it on 3 different models.

It is possible to break your internet connection and leave the DSL untouched, they provide a switch for this in the interface.
If you are on a dynamic IP you can disconnect, wait a few seconds ,re-connect and have a new address.
