I suppose nearly every iPhone user knows how to access emoticons for sms etc. Can't believe I've been so stupid

Settings >general>keyboard > International keyboards > add new keyboard> select >Emoji.

When your messaging , press the 'globe' button that's now appeared to give you the emoticons, .

There's lots of them, isn't there?  So, will they appear on other people's phones if they are not iPhones?

I won't even bother going there.  I've just sent someone a text, and the reply back was, "What smileys?"  She has an HTC Desire, and is the biggest technophobe going, so I'm not going to try to explain it.  All she got were four squares.

I think they only work on iphone / itouch / ipad.

I've been using them since I've had an iPhone and not been able to get them to show on none apple.
