I was chatting to a friend earlier about Infinity and asking how he was getting on. I made a passing comment about BT's policy to throttle torrents to which he said he never witnessed any signs of throttling when he used torrents.

Once home I installed uTorrent and decided to see for myself -

Sure enough no throttling in place at all!

Rik

I wonder if that will change later on, Griff?

No idea Rik. I don't use torrents myself, and only installed uTorrent to test it for muself, but my friend has been on BT Infinity since last autumn and says he's never witnessed any signs of throttling from day one.

Rik

Interesting. Maybe they're keeping it as a tool if the need arises?

I thought BT only throttle P2P at peak times, mainly evening?

4pm to midnight is "peak time" apparently yet I carried out this test at 5.45pm.

Lance

Is there a difference between packages perhaps?

There's many threads on forums regarding BT Infinity and port throttling , it's not clear whether it exists or not. I think there's evidence to suggest that the very heavy users do get squeezed, I assume that they fall foul of the FUP.

pctech

I suspect it might when the service takes off.

P2P throttling applies to all Infinity packages.

pctech

It depends how much they throttle and the speed you expect.
