I have always sync'd at about 7200Kbps and then the other week when we had power outage it resync'd at about 7600Kbps and I was getting a speed of 6400Kbps. Last week to turn all the power off and now I can not get a sync better than 6912Kbps. As my exchange has just been upgraded to ADSL2+ and I thinking about contacting Idnet to upgrade I am a bit concerned.

What has your noise margin been at each level of sync? Default is 6db and I wonder if you have been pushed up to a 9db margin which is limiting your sync.

No it's still sitting on 6db, no change at all,  :dunno:
Mr Music Man.

Steve

I guess that implies the noise level on your connection has increased slightly or the line has got 'longer' . Has the downstream attenuation increased? Perhaps worth a look at the customer portal to check that you've not already been switched to adsl2+ but profiled as adslmax. (your band width allowances will have changed)

After a reboot this morng it now sits at 7104Kbps. I have just emailed Idnet as the site informs me I can upgrade to ADSL2+ so I will see what happens.  :fingers:

To be honest there is no difference in the underlying IP profile on sync speeds of 7200, 6912 and 7104 - they are all set to the 6000 profile, so that is what speed you will see when maxing out the connection on any of those sync rates. If you could maintain the 7600 sync then you'd get the next level 6500 IP profile...

Den

Tuesday is the big day for moving accross to ADSL2+ and I'm waiting with bated breath. After today you will either see me flash by or it will be slow I wont be able to come on here.  Watch this space.  ;D

It's changed over (about 3.30)

New sync: 8525mb/s

Old down:  5.94mb/s              Old Up: 0.38mb/s

New down: 7.57mb/s            New Up: 0.73mb/s

and thats after the 1st hour.  ;D
Mr Music Man.

Rik

Expect it to fluctuate a bit as the line finds its level, Den, but for me ADSL2+ was definitely worth it, even on a long line.

Interleafing is still switched on, would it help even more to have it switched off?
Mr Music Man.

Rik

It would, Den, but then the line might become unstable. Leave it a few days, if things seem stale, ask support to get interleaving turned off.

Well happy at the moment  :thumb:

Den

Still rock solid and the sync is still the same (8525) is that likely to change over the ten day period or will only rebooting do that?
Mr Music Man.

Rik

I found my line resynced of its own accord, Den.

In the past if I wanted to try and improve my speed I would reboot early morning or mid Sunday afternoon. the sync never reset itself.  :dunno:
Mr Music Man.

Rik

YMMV, Den, I can only tell you what happened with my line.

Off topic, what does YMMV stand for, Rik?

I Googled it and it came up with 'You Make Me Vomit'.

Talking of acronyms, when I first started joining forums, and chatting online, for ages, I thought LOL meant Lots Of Love!  It did make me wonder why I was so popular everywhere I went!
