Yesterday, the BT Wholesale Checker was showing that my cabinet would be enabled by the 30th June. I have just checked and the checker is now showing:

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a fixed line speed up to 2Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 8Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 7Mbps and 8Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 13Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 7.5Mbps and 17.5Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 1Mbps and downstream line speed of 13Mbps; typically the downstream speed would range between 7.5Mbps and 17.5Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports a fibre technology with an estimated WBC FTTC Broadband where consumers have received downstream line speed of 40Mbps and upstream line speed of 10Mbps.

The actual stable line speed supportable will be determined during the first 10 days of use. This speed may change over time, to ensure line stability is maintained.

If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.

The IDNet FTTC checker still shows available from 30th June.

Is - or isn't - my line FTTC capable? Thanks.

Edit:

I have just run my number through the Zen checker and it is showing that my line is now FTTC capable. I walk past the cabinet most days but I failed to see them making the final connections.

Ask support, chances are their database is out of date.

Thanks Rik - great to see you back by the way. The BT site is now showing that an Infinity order can be placed so it would seem IDNet's database is not up to date. No big deal. Decision time has now come. Despite one or 2 service issues, I am reluctant to leave IDNet. I have e-mailed them and I am hoping that they will say something will change re the size of the peak element of the FTTC package or peak/off-peak times. :fingers:

I think the economics are against them, unfortunately.  :(

Got a MAC by return of post. As you indicate, no comment whatsoever about future changes to FTTC packages. Time for a coffee whilst I ponder what to do next.

Why are the simple things in life made so difficult. Three calls to our 'favourite ISP' (BT), elicits 3 different responses. First, we transfer your phone; move you to ADSL broadband and then order FTTC. Second, we can do a simultaneous install - no need for broadband, we can move you straight to FTTC. Third, yes we can do it all on one visit but we may have to change your phone number'. And before you ask, I wasn't talking to India!  Made a further call to one of IDNet's direct competitors. Their technical department were adamant that FTTC modem has to be connected to the Master Socket on a very short lead. Big question marks when I said that BT's FTTC installation states that a 30M data extension cable can be used to effectively move the Master Socket to a more convenient location close to power sockets. Their response was that the data cable is used only to connect the FTTC modem to the router. They have though gone away to think about it. Time for a lie down ??? May still linger here for a while.
