Hi there

twice today I have lost connection, web pages wont load but my daughters MSN carried on working. It affected my PC and 2 laptops.

All the lights on my router remained green and my little icon on the task bar showed full connectivity.

After a router reboot the internet came back, any ideas?

Thanks

Glenn

would that happen twice in 4 hours though, thanks for the welcome btw  :)

Glenn

No idea, but I'm sure one of the others may have some reasoning for it.

No faults being reported by IDNet or AAISP, sounds like a node or radius server issue. Welcome to the forum, sleepwalker.  :karma: :welc2:

Are the affected machines wired or wireless?

thanks, my pc is wired and the laptops are wireless

Rik

Which rules out RF interference, do you have a spare router you can try?

Really odd, my router is only a few weeks old and did wonder if there was an issue with the firmware.

I even ran a test from Hurricane Electric's looking glass http://lg.he.net and packets were going nowhere where they shouild have gone out on one of my ISPs hostlinks which suggests a lack of routing info which could be caused by a RADIUS outage now you mention it.

Exactly the same stuff happened.

I do have another router but that has a bizzare problem, as the 2 laptops cannot connect to it via wireless (wired works fine) but my iphone would connect fine  :dunno: so I changed to this backup one a fortnight ago and has worked fine untill today. Both Netgear DG834G btw.

Don't worry too much at the moment sleepwalker, if it happens again though you might need to look at swapping out the router.

Regarding your older router, plug it in but use a pin, pen or straightened paperclip to press and hold reset on back panel of the router (the hole is marked with a red circle) until the power light flashes three times, this resets the router to factory condition and gets rid of any corruption in the firmware.

Just had a similar outage from some time after 9.15pm to about 10.45pm.

Put your phone number in to this page http://status.zen.co.uk/broadband/ and it'll give you any recently cleared faults or maintenance (sorry to post a link to another ISP's pages here but its the only place such info is available)
