iLife is bundled with every Mac and contains iPhoto,iMovie and a few others it's been released with every new Mac for awhile now. iPhoto will perform simple editing tasks but will not compete with GIMP , Aperture or Adobe Photoshop.

Photoshop "Elements" is between £80-£50 I think and does just about everythink you need. I'd suggest downloading the demo first though from Adobes site just in case!!! Then if your daughter needs that one extra tool not on that version, you know before shelling out for it without what you need.

Elements is the "home" versions of the "full business suite" of "Photoshop CS5" or whatever. So a lot cheaper than the £500 normally quoted.

Hope that helps. PS, last time I used the demo of Photoshop Elements it had just about everything I wanted, and I like the advanced tools, so I'm hard to please.

Some very good advice here. PSE will meet most young photographer's requirements. Just be aware that the Photoshop CS6 Beta is out at the moment which usually means that the full product will follow shortly. The current student price for CS5 Extended is about £177. This price of the current product usually falls just before the release of the next product. I shoot all my pictures in RAW these days and I find that Adobe Lightroom meets most of my needs. Lightroom 4 has just been released and the price is about 50% of its predecessor. It is a much-improved product over Lightroom 3. Sadly, I doubt whether CS6 will come down in price as there is no real competition from Apple. It is also worth trying the bundled software that comes with most cameras. Canon software is good but not quite as easy to use or as flexible as the Adobe products. Finally, when making a choice it is also worth bearing in mind that modern photo editing software is memory and processor hungry.

Not sure how legit that is. Adobe are VERY specific about how their products can be used, so selling them as OEM without a package they're supposed to be with, may be breaking their rules. It's worth mentioning because you are not allowed to sell any photo you ever process without the correct licence, using Adobe software. For example if I had a student edition licence, they would make me pay for a full licence, or possibly sue me if I sold an image using the old student edition if I was no longer a student.

IIRC the last three cameras I've bought have all come with with various bits of Adobe software, at least one of them came with a (fairly up to date) version of Elements. They were all Canons, if that has any relevance.

Yeah, if it comes with hardware OEM is fine. Wasn't sure if the original poster was planning on buying anything with the software, as it didn't mention they wanted a camera. Still, you know how they say if it's too good to be true? Well that site is offering a camera, and two copies of software that would normally cost twice that each, for less than one copy. Hmm, odd that. May be legit, but I would look into it first.

That being said, Elements 10 is £52 on Amazon at the mo. No idea why it's suddenly so cheap. Lightroom is cheap at the moment too. They must be competing against some software I'm unaware of, although that suddenly makes me think I've ready something over the last couple of days on photography forums about some rival software to the lesser packages.

Generally, companies will not punish customers for getting OEM stuff without hardware. It's the responsibility of the shop surely? The likes of Ebuyer andDabs were never strong to enforce it (suggested to buy a CPU when clicking on OEM software, but never forced me). I thought the removal of certain guarantees and packaging was more than enough to justify the price reduction, without forcing other purchases too.

Most won't. Microsoft frown upon it but rarely chase it up. Adobe however are very law suit happy.

Morgancomputers are a very reputable company and have been offering deals like this for many years, they have never had any trouble from Adobe or any other company. I believe that this is a way of clearing their stocks for the newer products about to be introduced by adobe.

Lightroom 4 is now cheaper than it was because it competes directly with Apple's Aperture 3. The latter is only £54.99 at the App Store: about 40% of what it was a year ago.
