Anyone got one of these yet ?

had my Desire since they came out a couple years ago and this new HTC seems to be something worth upgrading to ?

Simon

It looks quite nice, but I'm not looking to change from the iPhone at the moment.

iphone 4s Simon or ???

wife is hankering for an iphone but i've never been into apple.  i'm not convinced its worth getting any type of 4 currently with the 5 due out in the autumn.

she does not want to wait that long and i need to upgrade my old Desire.

can you confirm that the iPhones dont use memory cards which you can upgrade ?  ie if you buy a 32gb iphone thats you lot for good and you cant upgrade it ?

Simon

iPhone 4S, and no, you can't upgrade the memory (that's why they can charge more for higher capacity versions - a rip off IMO).  But the phone itself is very good, and once you 'buy in' to Apple products, and get all the accessories, etc, it's very difficult to justify changing.

Plus, of course, there's more third-party accessories etc.

so the all of the apps you download are stored within the 16/32/64gig of whichever version you buy ?

dont they have onboard ram to ?

my problem with my current phone is i am always running out of ram as apps wont let me transfer them to the sd card memory....

ram is such a small amount versus even my old 4 gig sd card yet i'm stuck so often and cant download stuff as it simply wont fit into the ram  ???

despite there still being nearly 3 gig of the sd card free after 2 yrs of ownership  :o

Simon

To be honest, I don't think it has a separate ram to the on board storage, and I'm not even certain if that is a card, or built in.  But yes, all apps, music, photos, and the OS itself, are stored in the internal memory.

RAM is separate from storage, and I would be very surprised if you found the iPhone didn't have enough. I've never had a slowdown.

The IPhone 4 ONLY has 512mb of RAM ::)
When I was a lad, we ran the whole of the Nimrod Navigation system with 8k ( yes k! )
These days you need 512mb just to make a b****y phone call...

Had the Desire S for a while and it was dire as a phone (first priority for me) so got rid, wouldn't touch HTC again ever.

HTC X has a sealed battery and no memory expansion, also there are supposed screen bugs, tbh a quad core processor is crazy, apps dont use that much power, they still dont use all of the dual cores, and HTC battery life is still pants. ICS is tatty looking on the HTC tbh, and the reason these phones seem to need so much memory is bad OS design I think. Android seems to be a bit bloated on most phones and is now malware central too.

The Lumia windows phones are single core and are fast because the OS is well designed, like the iPhone they don't need massive amounts of ram, Justina's  Sensation is kinda clunky in use compared to my 64GB 4S and the screen is not so accurate. Many modern phones  seem to be making memory a fixed thing now, hence you buy more than you need and you need, that's just a fail safe otherwise it ends in tears as you run out of room, I have 20Gb of music on my 4S so I am glad I have the space.

I think the Samsung SIII will be interesting if you like the whole google thing, but I still think the phone is just a pocket spy, well they all are, some just are better at doing it, the little bots

Simon

Interesting about the HTC X being sealed, Gary.  I wonder if they're going to try Apple's trick of bringing out two or three versions, at different price points?

There is the HTC One X The S and V. I think thye are trying to simplify after the huge looses they made last year, they brought out so many phones it really fragmented badly, people were fed up of a phone being top if the line and then replaced in 3 mths. I think they are trying to stick with a simpler model, a bit Like Apples 4S, 4 and 3G. They really did make massive losses so they have to pull back this year as Samsung have the market sewn up in phones LCD/ Amoled panels and TV's it seems.

Yeah, I think companies really do themselves a disservice by releasing lesser phones, and more often. Put your phones out there as cheaper alternatives to apple, etc. You'd sell vastly more and not have to spread your funding across a wide range, with constant planning of new phones and advertising, etc. Seems like a no brainer. Whilst most don't like how Apple, etc operate, they have a decent idea with one model a year. You know where you stand then, and don't have to feel like you're being treated like a mug (if having the newest things is important to your life :D) having to buy 3 times a year.

You are right Niall, people want to know their phone (if you are like this) will hold out as top of the line for more than a few months and Apples model holds out well, also you will get updates for quite a few years as well. HTC and Samsung released many phones, not all HTC will get ICS and its implementation is a bid odd anyway on some handsets. Nokia killed themselves with releasing a dozen phones that were the same that never got updated to the next OS, and in the UK Microsoft phones are not doing well. You need to know you will get updates to your handset and it will stay relevant for as long as your contract, if that's how you roll. I still think Quad core is silly, and people talk of future proofing in a market where every few months their mega handset gets to be obsolete...its all a gimmick to sell handsets, and people fall for it every time.
