Hi
Advise please..
Is there an alternative to get your IP profile other than "http://test.speedtester.bt.com:50301/"
All I keep getting these last 3 days  "The system is currently busy. Please try again shortly, however if this problem persists, raise the issue with your service provider."
Is it just me or is it down elsewhere. ?
.
Thanks
Alan

Hi Alan

The problem with the BT speedtester is that so many people try to use it. As far as I know, there is no other way to find out your profile. You could try asking support.

The best times to try the BT speedtester are either very early in the morning, or late at night.

Thanks

Worked for me  :)

IP profile for your line is - 3500 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  4224 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3237 kbps

Thanks for replies..
.
I have tried early hours, mid day and late nights.
Prior to going on holiday I used to go straight into it every time.
I did leave my router running for a week though and we had thunderstorms in our absence.
I'll drop support a email.

Unfortunately it seems a bit pot luck whether or not it works at the moment. I wish BT would put more resources into it.

Hopefully support will be able to help!

Have dropped support an email...I was wondering if it had anything to do with the thunderstorms
in the area last week. According to my neighbour we had several small power cuts, no doubt that's
put my profile down for starters. That will teach me to leave the router ticking over whilst I'm not here.

Apart from the powercuts, Alan, the electrical noise generated by thunderstorms can force a low sync event (at best, at worst they can fry your router and even the equipment connected to it). While I normally keep the router on 24/7, if I'm going to be away, I turn it off and disconnect it from the phone socket, the same if there's thunder around.

Thanks Rik..
Lesson learnt for future... I could only get up to 1mb D/L yesterday... Have just tried it and its
3.5mb so its going in the right direction.. It usually gives me a better profile in 2.5 days on past experience.

The official line, Alan, is that it takes three full days at the higher sync speed before the profile will adjust. That said, I've seen it happen much earlier, leaving me to conclude that the system has a mind of its own!  :)
