ok got a funny one .....

we're away atm and the place has free wifi.

my phone will let me connect to a FB game. But it wont let me upload a photo to FB (which is important to us as we away on holiday taking pics) or access FB ?

This netbook will access FB / Game / Idnet etc etc

Whats going on ?  ??? ??? ???

(never had this trouble with my old HTC Desire but got the One X now and had the same problem when away last month as well)

Simon

Something in the WiFi settings on the phone, perhaps?   :dunno:

I suppose the free wifi may be set up to stop uploads, or cripple it to the point where only text and basic traffic will get through.

I'm with Niall. I suspect limits have been put on the service.

That's what I thought at first, but why the phone and not the netbook?

Probably more people around with phones. I know I always try to access networks when I'm in pubs :D

So, can a wifi provider change the functionality of the service, depending on which device is being used to access it?

Sometimes it's not a limit added... sometimes it's just 50 people at the hotel using a 512 down / 32 up connection.  ;D
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

this is wifi at a huge place with a few thousand visitors. never had the issue before on phone or laptop.

so why cant the phone even view FB ?

Glenn

Best ask HTC or your mobile provider, one thought, do you have data turned on?

data is off when trying to use the wifi.

but i have to turn wifi off and data on to be able to access FB.

same with Play store - cant access it via wifi only through mobile data.
