As long as don't get the Vodafone network near me as it's poorer than the O2 one , I note the term transition period whatever that means.

O2 is the only network that works reliably where I live, I noticed them doing some work on a nearby mast the other day.

If I end up with the Vodafone mast left I might have to get a contract and use call forwarding when I'm at home.

Glenn

It will take some time, Three & T-Mobile took around 4 years, and now they are working on integrating the Orange masts.

Vodafone & O2 are good around this area, Vodafone has a much better 3G coverage here though.

Hope they keep the Vodafone one here so I get a better 3G connection.

That's why the Vodafone network is poor. Because it's not near you. ;)
So if the network combines, you get to use both O2 and Vodaphone masts/dishes. The only down side is possible congestion. :/
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Glenn

If they follow the MBNL format where there are 2 masts, one will be de-commissioned, the other upgraded.

Or hope that O2 finally 'extractus digitus' and get their FemtoCell (ala Vodafone SureSignal) solution, that they've apparently being trialling, out to the masses...

It's about time too, surely if they all share masts it would mean less masts and better coverage, or am I being a bit naive here  :dunno:

That's what I would have thought too, Bob.  O2 is generally good around here, but at home, my signal is poor, because I'm on the outskirts of a village of nimbys that refused to have a mast near near them.  I'm not sure whether this will improve my signal at home or not, because if there isn't a mast, there isn't a mast.  My only hope is that they make the signal stronger from the mast(s) in town.

Because we know those pesky masts are murderers don't we  ;D

I bet most of the Nimbys have mobiles though.

Simon

Yes, and I've always wished for one of them to get stuck somewhere in the middle of the night, and wish they had a phone signal.   >:(

Some masts you can't see, they could be a fascia boards, chimney stack, in the case of the one here at work, inside a rooftop clock.

Yeah, there's one round here disguised as a tree.

Ones on an old and falling apart wind mill here. They might be renovating it sometime though. :P

Looks like the one near me has been given a lick of paint (passed it on the way to work this morning), its all white now where it was green before, the equipment cabinet is still green though

Baz

cant remember exactly what the process was but when t mobile and orange joined,i'm sure you could chose whether to use both networks or not.Im on T mobile and I chose to use both and it works well,if you are out of range of one it automagically picks and uses the other.

no probs at all for me and it must have been nearly a year since that merge

Rik

Likewise, Baz, but I'm with Orange and hop onto T-Mobile masts. It works really well.

Simon

So, why was there a choice, and for what reason might you NOT want to use both networks?

T-Mobile and Orange need time to integrate their networks, it's still ongoing, changing the company name was the easy part.

I think it was optional thats all Simon,If I remember correctly.something about if you were happy and all working ok on your original network, fine just leave it,if getting some outage then join both.

Like I say I may have got that all wrong its just seems to ring a bell thats all.

Dont know why you wouldnt want to use both no  :dunno:

for me it was just a matter of a simply text to opt in. some times I dont even notice which one I use as the logo is hidden out the way on my cheapo PAYG  ;D

pctech

T-mobile and Orange network merge is complete http://www.mobilenewscwp.co.uk/2012/05/everything-everywhere-completes-network-merge/

It was opt in to begin with as I think a SIM update had to be sent.
