Should I upgrade to ADSL2+

I am currently on an ADSL2+ connection but my line is profiled to ADSL Max. I have a NetGear DG834G V2 router on a long line, approx 3.5km from the exchange. Router Status currently shows as:-

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 3776 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 49 db 15.5 db
Noise Margin      13 db 18 db

The noise margin is somewhat of a pain. If BT do any work and my router re-synchs, the noise margin goes up and stays there. It never comes back down, never. Even if it stays up solid for a month. If I get support to have the line reset, it works fine at 3-6db, with a higher connection speed of 4 - 4.5 mbps until the next bout of work, the noise margin goes back up and again, it stays there. This never happened before the exchange was upgraded. OK, I had a less stable line, but I could live with that as I had a higher speed profile.

My question is, Would there be any advantage in me "upgrading" (there seems to be a £12 something payment that has to be made) to "true" ADSL2+ ?   or am I asking for more problems if I do.

Thanks for any advice.

I don't think you would get any downstream speed increase, I didn't when I changed from ADSL to ADSL2+.

The only increase I got was upstream.

You could even get a lower sync on ADSL2+  :-\
