Reading books downloaded from a library on Kindle

When downloading a library book from, say, Manchester Library, it cannot be read on a KIndle. If I use "Digital Editions Converter" is becomes a PDF file which can be downloaded onto my Kindle. However the text is too small to read, and increasing text size within Kindle has no effect. I have been told this works:
"Try this with document on PC.
Choose "edit-select all" when document is in PDF format and copy into a text document. Increase font size in text document to around 28, convert text document back to PDF using "save as" facility. Download document to Kindle via USB connection you should be able to read it clearly."
However I can find no way to get it into "Microsoft Word Processor". Also I can find no way to convert the .pdf to a .wps file, which may work, all google searches seem to find is .wps to .pdf converters. Though there are offers of on line converters, but these fail, perhaps because of the file size, anyway if it did work it is very slow and laborious.
Any ideas on how to solve this problem? Either reading the books with Kindle or following the above quoted instructions? TIA

What file format is the file you downloaded from the Library in? BB

Plus I believe the later Kindles have a zoom in feature for pdf files.

Well Steve there is no such function on mine. They are often pdf files, but you have to "convert" it otherwise it cannot be accessed by Kindle.

Certainly on the Kindle 3 there's a Zoom and contrast feature when viewing a pdf document but even so it doesn't make it easy to read as you have to perform this action for every section


I've just used Calibre to convert a pdf to MOBI and that seems to have gone ok and allows text flow and subsequent font changes.

I bought  "Step by Step Guide, to Getting Libray Books to your Digital Device" by Lynette Kuipers, luckily it was only a few pence, it is completely useless. It is geared to the USA market, who use a different system for their library books. In addition there are screen shots which are totally illegible.

I've found Calibre very useful as a convertor , so for instance I can go from .EPUB to .MOBI and then copy and paste to Kindle.

It is indeed, I use Calibre all the time, but it does not solve this problem. The book is readable, but not comfortably so, causes eye strain. If I convert it to pdf when I download it then I do have the zoom function, but then of course the lines extend off the page and it is difficult to read for that reason.

I found that a, not pefect, solution is to zoom then read in landscape mode. At least it is legible, but takes some getting use to the controls top and bottom instead of the sides.
