iDevices are not that exciting anymore, the iPhone5 doesn't bring that many changes from iPhone4/s

I've been thinking about changing to a Samsung phone or a Windows phone recently.

What can phones do that they don't now? Its getting harder to innovate, but the iPhone construction is very good, I'll be pre ordering (if I can ) a 64GB one Friday, Already have a buyer for my 4S so cost is negligible. Having seen Justina's Sensation fall apart and experienced the plastic build quality of the S3 I just think I'll keep current, I like the iPhone for my needs, i don't need to be excited, just pleased and happy with reliability and performance, and IOS still does that for me, some like Android and thats fine but still its just another phone, its all down to personal choice, I don't buy computers to be excited, I have sex for that

I am as my buyer wants mine quite quickly, means the 5 Costs £150 for a 64Gb model as my 4S was 64Gb and had applecare for another year too. They do hold value well.

My cousin was at the event, and he said the same thing. I've also read that pretty much everyone is saying the same thing.

I'm not sure I like the idea of it being 'taller' but no wider than the 4S.  I have enough trouble keeping hold of mine while typing, as it seems to slip out of the fingers quite easily, and I think a taller one might be top heavy, even though they are saying it's lighter.  I also don't like the idea of having to buy adapters for all of my docks and accessories - what advantage does the new connector have over the old one?

Other than being smaller and it not making a difference which way you put the cable in? I gather from some chatter that it might open up the possibility to having cables terminating in something other than a USB port. Thus means the potential perhaps for a hdmi connection without the adapter.

Sadly I only use the connector for charging, every thing else is via 'airplay'. I think I'll be sticking to my 4S , it's nearly brand new and cost a lot of money , that is unless my wife forces me at gunpoint to give her the 4S

I'm assuming the £529 will be for the 16Gb version, which is more than I paid for the 4s 32Gb @£499. Interested to see what the equivalent 5 will cost, I fear no change out of £600.

I can't believe Apple researched this badly and I find the last paragraph very revealing.

They will have made sure it would work in the US certainly, anywhere else including a small island thousands of miles from the US would be considered a lower priority.

Especially since we've no 4G network in the UK to speak of and the network we plan to use for 4G is unsold. If and when we have a network I think that there will be an iPhone that supports.

But when are the likes of me going to see 4G coverage, whether it be with EE or Three? If this is going to happen in the next year then people will have to seriously think which provider to use. If it's a couple of years time then it's probably not an issue. I can't see O2 and Vodafone being desperately happy at purchasing the 2.6GHz spectrum when one of their big money earners won't work on it.

From what I've read some of the newer Node B kit maybe LTE ready and just need a software upgrade but the older kit will need replacing.

Before Huawei took over O2's network management they appointed Ericsson to upgrade the south of the UK and Nokia Siemens Networks got the north, how long this project is along or whether the stuff got delivered or installed at all only O2 know.

Not that I should worry, it's a novelty for me to get 3G signal , unless I went to Orange and then the phone wouldn't 'work' at work at all. - can't win.

Seems it's the "tick" where most are waiting for the "tock".
Has it got a higher res screen? I'm one of "if it ain't broken [don't buy a new one]". So the only draw for a purchase or change is if the new model actually has something better and more useful. 4G is just "faster internet", which is not much use IMO over "fast internet" that HSPA/3G offers.

PS, it's the form factor though. Smaller computers always cost a lot more! But I agree it might not be a necessity for such a small computer, so I'll also keep to my PC for now. Although a mate just said I can pick up a good one on a £18 contract!

You do realise you HTC phones were probably close to £400 sim free, Mitch. The New Samsung Galaxy S3 was £500 at release.

I'm keeping the 4S , the wife's happy My original iPad needs an upgrade and that's cheaper than the equivalent phone.  Looking at HTC we are now on our 4th in two years there is no comparison in build quality imo.

Justina's HTC just broke this week, stopped working its been sent in for repair, motherboard it appears, thats one thing I like about Apple, a new phone to your house next day by courier with apple care.

Orange care supply a handset within 24 hours, very glad we took it out.

Orange it seems will charge unless you buy the phone off them, O2 it seems have no clue apart from going into store on day of release, which is not easy for some, or convenient. <sigh>

4S is mini SIM - so yes it's different.

I've heard a rumour (so probably incorrect) that you get a Nano Sim supplied with the phone. This would seem logical, send a generic Sim and then activate it with your carrier on their website.

We shall see.......

At home I have a choice of O2 or a service provider hosted on O2, have tried SIMs from all the other networks and they just don't work.

Picked up a Nano Sim from my local O2 shop today, it comes with a adaptor to convert it back to micro Sim size. I have therefore activated it and are currently using it in my iPhone 4 so it is ready to move to my new iPhone 5 on Friday.

Same here, I was busy playing with it yesterday.  No scuffs although I will get a case, very fast, great screen too, colours are much richer. What struck me was how light it is, its great for watching movies and Its good to have it running over the 5Ghz spectrum on my router.
