They are indeed as are 0808 numbers. I confirmed this with Support as they are not shown on IDNet's website. I think that I am also right in saying that basic landline doesn't stop you from calling anywhere at anytime: you just have to pay for the calls that you make. Call packages plus basic landline rental make sense for heavy landline phone users. IDNet's website is quite helpful in showing the various costs and benefits.

Think only mobile operators (with exceptions) charge for 0800 numbers.

I use SayNoto0870 to find generic numbers and 0800 numbers can be called on mobiles using this link:

Only useful really if your mobile has got inclusive minutes as nothing is ever really free.

Nope but they argue now its more expensive and so on.

The real reason being that people were avoiding big bills by using 0800 gateways.

Yep.

I tend to text rather than talk as after being on the phone all day at work, picking one up when home or out and about is the last thing I want to do

But you can do the same on a fixed line, with no problems. Right? So, it shows that the Mobile operators were not charging for "line (or is it wireless rental?) rental" in the proper way. OR perhaps a small charge or reverse charge on 0800 numbers (make the shops/businesses pay for the call, as they already do)?
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Think mobile operators say they don't get a slice of the income so won't carry them.

Thanks for the reply s,  I thought it may be free but was not sure, Idnet's page is helpfull but it does not mention 0800 at all. Its become very confusing with the emergence of all the different 08 numbers, some you pay some are "local" some premium. I do use the "say no" site thats where I got the No from, the car insurance company I use has all 0845 contact numbers, but I found an alternative 0800.  :)

:thnks:
