Forgive the rant!

For the second sunday in a row my internet connection isn't working.  I spoke to IDNet last week about last sunday they were less than helpful (same as BT), all they said was if there is a pattern they can investigate.  Well idnet if you are reading there is a pattern and I'm paying for a service that I'm not getting.

Why can't they have someone on call at weekends and if they get a severity 1 (connection down problem) they look at it there an then.  £17.99 a  month isn't cheap and I went with idnet for the service, some service!

I'd really appreciate any advice, BT can't or won't speak to me about broadband and IDNet are never there when it happens, after the event they don't want to know!

Thanks

Rik

What are your symptoms? Do you have synchronisation with the exchange, or is the DSL light on your router flashing?

What exchange are you on?

BT are working at weekends in exchanges making DSLAM upgrades,it could be they have disconnected your line from the DSLAM.

IDNet have just called so can't fault them for that!

Apparently I am synced to the exchange (no idea what that means) and BT have confirmed no work going on at the exchange.  I'm trying the switch off for half an hour and try again!

Thanks

Good luck with that, let us know what happens.

If you're connected (synched) to the exchange, then your line is working (your router should be able to confirm that for you). It sounds like a stale session is suspected. These occur when BT thinks you have a live connection, but your router and IDNet do not agree, you remain connected, but nothing happens. The 30 minute power off often cures this, it can be done faster in some circumstances by logging into the BT test domain - have a read through the sticky for more information on this technique.

Hi Ian

I can see that you've logged-in again now. Is everything OK?

Simon

Jimbo

I've just been off for a good 2hrs or so.  Just could not get connected, and had the whole IPCP Config error.  Turned off for an 1hr and I've managed to re-connect.

So don't know what's been happening, but seems ok now.

Cheers. :)

Rik

Sounds like another stale session, Jimbo. They must be contagious. :(

Thanks to everyone for your help, back on again and all seems well.

Simon, thanks for your prompt response.  I'm still not sure that I understand why this happens so frequently on a Sunday.  I will email you direct to ask the question!

Thanks
