Bad time of day to put a new site live, I always do go lives at the start of the day, at least it gives you all day to fix little issues  ;D

I've had clients in the past wanting a site to go live on Friday's at 5pm before, they don't like it when you tell them that any problems won't get fixed until the following Monday

There was supposed to be a new site with updated/changed/new packages due in September. . Perhaps this is it.

Glenn

It's not going to be the new site, they are just working on the server...

If it is planned maintenance, then why not 'advertise' it in advance? If it is unplanned, then surely there needs to be a loss of service announcement.

But there's no point in posting an announcement on the site if the site and RSS are down!  :P

So that points to a catastrophic failure of the site - without a backup system

Rik

Does it? That seems a big assumption.

Not really. If a business that relies on its web presence loses that for several hours, then that can be described as catastrophic. The fact that an alternative is not available suggests no backup capability

Baz

im now getting this

Tis back up. Old site? A rollback is the best option in a failed migration/upgrade. Also call a "contingency plan"? We had those in the old office I worked in. Thankfully IDNet is not RBS and it's not taken 4 weeks to fix.
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Lance

It was just work on the server, Ben, not the new website being implemented.

Our website Content Management System experienced a data corruption yesterday that took a while to untangle. Sorry for any inconvenience.
