Now changing over to ASDL2+

BT finally put something special in the phone exchange and I can upgrade. So with the change in packages, I'm upgrading.

The flat rate download cap should help, as I can do any computer work or youtube/bbc iplayer surfing whenever I want now.

I'll keep you posted on speeds etc. As I'm quite confident in the line quality. Currently it's

I've no idea what it means. It might be a bit off, because it's an old router too. (Might see if a friend still has his new unboxed one he bought by mistake

I'd hope for slightly better throughput, but it's an old router and the exchange only just kicked in. So I'll see how it levels out. Oh, and the ping is great!

PS, when I say "slightly better", it's only because I'm holding out for the max my line can do.

Looking good so far, I assume it's a BT connection any idea of the IP profile?

I get:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 18 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 4 Mbps-21 Mbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 19.01 Mbps

Oh, you might notice my noise margins changes over the week, but this might be the swap of routers. I put my old router back in, as my newer one seems to die occasionally (overheating?).

Well the IP profile is correct at 88.2% of downstream sync. (or thereabouts)

If the speedtest is correct your sync would have to have increased, on the 88.2% IP profile/sync rule that comes out at about 22300,

PS, still have the strange cut off at midnight (or 1am daylight savings) every day.

Something powered is really causing a trouble. The economy 7 kicks in and the router looses connection. Think I can get the electric company to replace the meter? I guess the other part is my side and my expense.

It will probably not be the meter and changing it will do nothing. There will be several devices connected to the E7 which start at that point and there will be a large surge in current - that is what might cause the drop.

Your normal tarrif is not affected it should remain on permanently - the meter and switch are normally make before break so teh supply should not be cut. Even if it was the period would only be a few milliseconds and the power supply for your hub would not be affected.

It still causes it to die. So uh. Hmmm. As said before. I've tried turning off all storage heaters (AFAIK they ARE only on economy 7, as it's impossible to get them to turn on out of hours). And everything except the fridge, and the router still looses connection the second the economy 7 comes on (midnight).

Immersion heater? Or next door possibly. One resync won't effect your profile, if your worried about multiple resyncs during this period I suppose you could use a timer to power off and on to cover that event.

Must be next door. As said, everything had been turned off last year when I tried it (in the summer, so I did not freeze

), except the fridge. So it cannot be my heaters/water. As far as I can tell.

Unlikely - or it should be unlikely.

E7 is 7 hours from "about midnight" - it could be anywhere from midnight through to 00:30, or 01:00 through to 01:30. The variation in switching times is to ensure there is not a massive surge on the network especially from an estate with large numbers of houses with E7 tariffs.

The immersion heater is a possibility, or possible "arcing" at the switch but that would tend to only happen on switch off.

My E10 switches at around 00:14 for 5 hours the 13:14 for 3 hours and 20:14 for a further 2 hours.

The Openreach chap I (by absolute chance) walked past on this street did not have anything he could recommended when I quizzed him on it.

He said it's so hard to find such a fault, even things like streetlights can be a problem and they are a nightmare to sort out. Is it worth me asking IDNet to check my line? I could do another "turn off all the electric" test I guess to confirm if it's my house wiring. My Economy 7 is on a separate loop (so only those devices wired into it come on) to the rest of the house. Would economy 7 cause a problem if something in the "loop/circuit" was crossed/broken?
