Well there it is its out to download, personally im sticking with Apple Maps the more users use it the better it gets, and using google maps just gives google yet more map data, but if you need it download it, its pretty good and has turn by turn navigation and streetview, in fact it seems better than the Android version  :o
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

I downloaded it earlier today. I'll be keeping an eye on improvements for Apple Maps but having used it quite a bit already it would have to improve substantially before I'd consider using it again. What I don't like about Google maps is that it appears you can no longer pull in locations from your contacts list. It now uses a password protect history, presumably linked to your Google account. I don't particularly want Google tracking my every move if that is the case.

Shame there's not a specific iPad version but the phone version is fine resolution wise at x2

I found is a bit...sparse and also the features that Apple do have are missing but if you use a phone as a gps unit it's very good, tbh I don't use iPhone maps that much but im sticking with it as I mentioned before, if nobody helps to update the map data then Apple maps will never improve, and Google have had a ten year ahead start. I prefer the link in with Siri and the phone numbers and addresses etc that Apple maps show, and since you have to dig down a bit to avoid sending data to Google anyway I just deleted it in the end. I think an iPad version will come out at some point, like the new youtube app has. We have built in GPS in the Focus so that's all we really need.
