hi,

My dad runs AVG and PC defense.

He wants to run Sibelius 5 ( a music composing program ) but when PC defense is running sibelius simply doesnt load. Its like PC defense is blocking it....but it certainly shouldnt be! its just an antivirus/antispy program. But when we turn PCdefense off, sibelius loads perfectly.

I cant imagine it thinks sibelius is a virus, especially as it does not boast "PC defense has stopped a virus!  ;D" when it doesnt load.

could it be that there is some internal conflict in RAM, registry whatever? Anyone any ideas about how to resolve it? much appreciated.

Have a look at the log for PCDefense, it may give you a clue as to what is happening.

Is it this PCDefense from Laplink?

PC Defense.........blocks rootkits/global hooks, probably stopping the .msi running windows installer etc.

It should have options/permissions for each program it assesses.

Having read this write up on this software it seems a very expensive way of obtaining several already available and free in windows applications.

yes its from laplink.

Iv taken a look at it and its possibly the worst program ever...has no options for advanced users, apparently assuming we are all morons that cannot be trusted. Has no exceptions option, will have a look for the logs though.

He was given the software by his workplace, clearly purchased by people who cant be arsed to read reviews.

Thanks for help :)

I've been using Sibelius for more years than I care to remember and I've never had a conflict with any AV software, so it has to be PCDefense that's causing the problem.

I realise I'm stating the bleeding obvious at this point in the thread, but it's always worth reminding people about the importance of using reliable and reputable AV software.

PCDefense? - gimme a break!  The spelling alone is enough to indicate danger.

For what it's worth, NOD32, Comodo firewall and Sibelius 5 rub shoulders happily together on my system on a day-to-day basis.

Spot on,if you use NOD32 and set it correctly then use Commodo firewall(which is free) you save a fortune and have total peace of mind.
